Elisabeth (Lise) Agerbaek is an Associated Professor at Lillebaelt Academy, University of Applied Science in Odense, Denmark. She has published articles and books on the use of e-portfolios as a learning tool and how to design for web and online media. She teaches Philosophy of Science and Digital Design at the BA in Digital Concept Development.

She is educated MA in Philosophy and Design and is CEO of own Graphical Design company. Current area of research is acknowledging informal learning through digital badges. Another field of interest is how to scaffold interdisciplinary teaching in higher education. She enjoys winter bathing and art museums.

For the past 2 years Gent has been developing and shaping the research methods and agenda at Towards Maturity (TM). During these 2 years, he has authored and co-authored a number of research and consultancy papers to do with workplace learning, performance, the L&D sector overall, modern learner, and the learning organisation. Apart from developing the benchmark process and analytical capabilities of Towards Maturity, he heads the Learning Landscape Audit, a programme investigating the learning behaviours, characteristics, tactics, and outputs of individuals. To date there are over 41,000 respondents/learners worldwide cutting through a variety of sectors and industries. He has presented some of the insights most recently at the 2018 Learning Technologies Conference in London. His most recent publication focused on how top learning companies achieved greater performance and productivity through specific tactics and behaviours. Richard Aldridge, 42 years working at the NHL University in the Media Department. Distance Learning has become an important part of the learning experience for our Students. Our Media Department has been able to play a important role in helping the Teaching staff to create content. From the early cable TV tranmissions, VHS tapes for home use until now everything on-line.

We offer our staff three choices: “We do it for you”, “We do it together” or “You do it yourself”.  

The development of classrooms without a camera operaters has been a great challenge and a sucessvol project. This enables more Teachers to record their lectures which has become a cost efficient recording method.

Alejandro (Ale) Armellini is Professor of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and Dean of Learning and Teaching at the University of Northampton.

Ale’s key role is to lead change in the area of learning and teaching across all schools and services at Northampton. Three aspects of Ale’s work are (1) the development, implementation and evaluation of Northampton’s Learning and Teaching Strategic Plan, (2) the development of a robust framework for continuous professional development for academic staff, and (3) fostering evidence-based, innovative practices in both campus-based and online learning and teaching. Ale’s research focuses on learning innovation, online pedagogy, course design in online environments, institutional capacity building and open practices.

Ale has extensive international teaching and programme development experience across different education sectors and modes of study. Over the years, he has used, researched and refined evidence-based design-for-learning interventions to promote positive change in further and higher education. Teams under his leadership have researched the application of learning technologies in diverse academic settings. His PhD tutees research specific areas in the field of educational technology, pedagogy, openness and innovation. Ale is active in consultancy work globally.

Michelle N. Armstrong leads philanthropic investments to effect systemic educational reform, workforce development, and nonprofit capacity building at the PMI Educational Foundation. Previously, she specialized in venture philanthropy at the Goldman Sachs Foundation to ensure the educational attainment of academically talented, financially less advantaged students. Her earlier work at MetLife Foundation catalyzed new priorities in grantmaking, including emphases on educational access and opportunity, workforce readiness, and the aging of America. In addition, Michelle previously directed two regional nonprofit education programs to promote college going as well as examined educational reform and policy initiatives as a researcher at both the National Center for Restructuring Education, Schools, and Teaching at Teachers College, Columbia University and Education Development Center. Paul Bacsich is the Founder and Managing Director of Matic Media Ltd, a consultancy in the UK active in online learning since 1996. He is also Professor of Practice for the University of West Indies Open Campus, which is headquartered in Barbados.

In addition he consults for the SeroHE division of Sero Consulting Ltd as a Senior Associate: he was a member of the Sero team who recently reviewed Learning Technology Support at the University of Oxford, and currently he is leading a 12-month project at Sero to develop an accredited vocational short online course to teach teachers to teach online for Wey Education (who run Interhigh Virtual School and other similar entities).

He is also Visiting Professor for University of Derby Online Learning (UDOL) in the UK.

He has a long-standing interest in Open Education via a large EU project (POERUP) and several EU/European Parliament studies: in particular he is Co-Coordinator of the Open Education Working Group and an Ambassador for the global advocacy of OER and a member of the OER Advocacy Committee of ICDE.  He was a co-author for the JRC 2017 report “Policy Approaches to Open Education in 28 Member States”.

His interests in leadership in e-learning were developed during the Erasmus+ D-TRANSFORM project 2014-17, which drew on and continued his work over 20 years on management of open and distance learning.

In addition to his public work he consults for a number of international, government, commercial, venture fund and university clients on market/competitor/pricing research, policy, education funding models and retention strategies. He has recently finalised a report on credit recognition and transfer for online masters' programmes, for a university client in Canada.

In 2015-16 Paul chaired the review panel for the Vision and Strategy Appraisal of the UK Open University Library, where he interviewed over 70 staff and students and carried out substantial comparative and policy research. He also chaired the E-learning review panel for Uppsala University, with three days of intensive meetings and presentations, and spent four months chairing a task force for the National Forum for Learning and Teaching in Ireland to prepare a scoping document on infrastructure issues related to online learning.

Some of his recent thinking can be found in his UNESCO policy brief on "Alternative Models of Education Delivery" and in a paper for the "Open Education 2030" higher education workshop run by the EU. He remains very interested in "Multiversity" models and competence-based provision, based on his earlier studies on "Time and e-learning", developed from a speech given in Austria, a country with which he has increasing links.

He is a co-founder of MultEversity, a start-up in online/blended post-secondary education which aims in due course to be an accredited university and higher vocational provider. He also has had involvement in other early-stage online providers over the last six years and has done several studies of them.

Marzia Baldassari is the Volunteer Learning Resource Specialist in the United Nations Volunteers programme (UNV), based in Bonn, Germany, where she coordinates and delivers learning initiatives for 6500+ UN Volunteers across the globe through the design, development, delivery of e-learning courses, blended learning programmes and face-to-face training activities.

In her role, she coordinated the development of the first UNV-specific online learning platform, that has grown to approximately 23,000 users in just over 12 months as well as prepared the content for UNV-tailored e-learning courses.

Marzia is passionate about education, learning and training. Her experience varies from the community and voluntary sector to private companies to international organizations in both a paid and voluntary capacity. Originally from Rome, Italy, she has travelled extensively in Europe, the Americas and the Middle East and has developed a strong interest in human development.  She believes learning is a key component to any organization as it provides added value for individuals in various shapes of knowledge, skills and attitudes both at personal and professional level.

Within the current position, Marzia is also responsible for outreach and works to expand partnerships on learning with United Nations agencies, learning institutions, and other stakeholders.

Marzia has a keen interest in languages and cultures and is fluent in English, French, Italian, and Spanish.

Over 30 years of international and intercultural experience and work in all parts of the world, in particular in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. Living for longer periods of several years in Zimbabwe, Kenya, Brazil, Italy and Switzerland. Over 20 years in leadership positions as director of works of the Society of Jesus at regional and global level. Over a period spanning 25 years, Dr. Fawzi Baroud has been engaged in promoting technology as a pedagogical tool tied to meeting educational objectives and assessment of learning outcomes in higher education. Specialized in eLearning, systems management, mathematics and electrical engineering, he combines numerous areas of academic expertise for advancing the use of technology in different curricular content areas.

As the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology at Notre Dame University – Louaize (NDU) in Lebanon, Dr. Baroud leads in the campus-wide planning and implementation of information technologies that support teaching and learning, including training faculty members to integrate educational technology in their teaching.

As champion of open education on campus, Dr. Baroud has made the integration of Open Educational Resources (OER) a key strategic goal of the University. Under his watch, NDU became an institutional affiliate of Creative Commons, and he is currently in the process of formulating policies for the successful use of OER in teaching and learning. He conducts seminars and hands-on workshops on open education and open licensing at leading Lebanese higher education institutions and has become a reference point on the subject.

Dr. Baroud has published several studies on eLearning and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) use in education, participated in conferences, coauthored the informatics national curriculum for Lebanon, and offered consultancy to academic institutions. His research centers on the use, integration and evaluation of ICT, OER, and eLearning implementation in higher educational contexts.

Pim is the co-founder of Grasple, where his mission is to make knowledge open to everyone.

He is an engineer by training, graduated from the Technical University of Delft in 2013, with a MSc in Systems Engineering and Policy Analysis.

What got him into education was a conversation with friends. Their opinion was unanimous: they hated statistics! The more he talked about it, the more interested he got. He started teaching statistics (and still does). Through his teaching, Pim experienced that if people can practice online and at their own pace, then everyone can learn statistics. Additionally, this leaves more room for interesting activities and conversations during class time.

In 2014, Pim started a social enterprise to make topics like statistics accessible to everyone. First only statistics, now math, research methods and linear algebra as well.

Grasple was born: a user-friendly platform where teachers can find, edit, and share open learning materials, mainly on math and statistics.

Dr Daniel Belton is a University Teaching Fellow in the School of Applied Sciences at the University of Huddersfield.

He uses innovative teaching approaches to deliver modules covering analytical science and process simulation to students on a range of degree courses, including Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and Forensics. Dr Norbert Morawetz is a creative business academic and digital entrepreneur. Prior to joining Henley Business School, Norbert built up and ran the largest entrepreneurship programme in the UK at the University of Hertfordshire, for which he received the National Enterprise Educator Award from the UK Higher Education Academy.

Anneke Boink - Meijer(1986) is a teacher and innovator at Summa College in Eindhoven. She is in study for the Master 'Learning and Innovating'. Anneke is passionated about motivation, selfregulated learning and personalized learning. That's the way to ownership. As teacher she create programm's with researching-learning and project-learning where selfregulated en personalized learning are ingredients. In the 'Practoraat Activerende Didactiek' is she in the role of innovator and part of a design team where she does research. Ulrich Boser is a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and the founder of The Learning Agency. He is dedicated to improving the ways that learning is delivered.

Boser is also a bestselling author, and he recently wrote a book on the science of learning titled Learn Better: Mastering the Skills for Success in Life, Business, and School, or, How to Become an Expert in Just About Anything. Amazon called Learn Better “the best science book of the year.”

Boser’s work has been highly influential. His research has been featured everywhere from “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” to the front page of USA Today and has helped inspire policy changes at the district, state, and national level. Boser has also developed legislation, advised political campaigns, and served as managing director of the Center for American Progress’s education team.

Jane Bozarth is a veteran classroom trainer who transitioned to eLearning in the late 1990s and never looked back. As leader of the State of North Carolina USA's award-winning eLearning program, Dr. Bozarth specializes in finding low-cost ways of providing online training solutions. Sandra Brás is E-Learning Program Manager and Trainer at the RIPE NCC.

In this role, Sandra has worked on the improvement and growth of the E-Learning practices at the RIPE NCC. Some of the projects she has implemented are the RIPE NCC Webinars and the RIPE NCC Academy. Kjetil Brathetland is employed as a Special Advisor for Hordaland County Administration, Norway. Perrine de Coëtlogon is an expert for Digital technology, Europe & International, within the MIssion for Pedagogy and Digital Technology (MIPNES) of the French Ministry for Higher Education. She is member of the working group of the European Commission “Digital skills and competences” since January 2016 and has been member of the team that lead to the French innovative portal www.sup-numerique.gouv.fr. Bert’s professional life is all about competent people. He thinks, publishes, consults, designs and sets up learning and development projects for corporations. His areas of expertise include technology enhanced learning and leadership development.

Bert has been active in the field of corporate learning and e-learning for the last 20 years, first as instructor and course designer, later as project manager, consultant and business development manager. He worked at IBM Learning Development Europe where he was responsible for commercial e-learning development projects across Europe, and the management of the learning innovation initiatives. Dr Martin Dougiamas is best known as the founder of the open-source Moodle project, providing a free learning platform used in every country and every education sector around the world.

At OEB's Spotlight Stage he will address how open technologies in education are critical to best support progress towards the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

As the CEO of Moodle Pty Ltd (based in Perth, Australia and Barcelona, Spain) Martin leads the company of 60 software developers and educators that guides and supports the Moodle project (including MoodleCloud, Moodle Mobile and other initiatives). Moodle Pty Ltd has also created a global network of over 90 certified Moodle Partner companies that help provide funding for this independent software project through a sustainable business model since 2003.

Martin has a mixed academic background with multiple post-graduate degrees in Computer Science and Education, including an honorary doctorate from Universitat de Vic in Catalonia. Benjamin Doxtdator is a First Nations teacher from Canada who now lives in Belgium and teaches Middle School English Language Arts at The International School of Brussels where he is also a co-ordinator of the Personal Learning Program. In his teaching practice, he values helping students develop their identities as readers, writers, and thinkers.  In 2017, he organized a strand of Learning by Design at ISB where over 100 students worked to develop social innovation projects. He is currently planning for #ISBLbD 2019.

Benjamin received his MA in philosophy from McMaster University and his teaching degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Before moving to Brussels, he taught philosophy at a private alternative school in Toronto, and then Grade 2 in the public school system in Abu Dhabi.

Dana Doyle earned her B.F.A. from Pratt Institute, New York in 1992 and is currently earning an MEd from Northeastern University in Boston. Over the past 20 years her work has been focused on digital solutions design and management. Ms. Doyle has been working at MIT in the MITx group for over 4 years and has held roles from Project Management of MOOC creation to her current role as the Director of the MITx Program. As the Director of the MITx Program Ms. Doyle manages a team of 18 to support faculty in creating MOOCs. Ms. Doyle also works closely with the Manager of the Residential Program as MOOC work often overlaps with residential use of digital material. Her work includes identifying pilot projects within MITx to help improve MOOC production and quality. Additional areas of interest for MITx include how to use MOOCs to support educational uses beyond MITx, easier access to material by non-MIT faculty, MOOC usage for blended learning and non-traditional learning styles. Her work to support these efforts includes working with educational entrepreneurs, MIT alumni, business and other educational institutions.

Sheila Egan is the Learning Spaces Project Lead at City, University of London, working within the Educational Technology team.  Sheila didn’t take the traditional e learning route to Educational Technology, instead she has a strong background the installation of Audio Visual Systems, having previously worked at Brunel University as their Head of Media Services.  Along with the introduction of lecture capture and digital signage, she also managed the installation of teaching equipment in over 100 rooms.  Having fitted in working for an AV Integrator, then manufacturer to the Education Sector, Sheila now brings all things learning spaces together – the physical space and furniture, the technical infrastructure and how Academics and Students use City’s spaces to teach, learn and study.

Sheila is currently working with colleagues in IT and Property and Facilities on the cross departmental Designing Active Learning Initiative (DALI) which aims to update all of City’s 200 plus learning spaces over a period of six years, alongside new building and refurbishment projects.  When not looking at rooms and technology, Sheila can be found literally switching off and unplugging by practicing yoga, and is working on perfecting her headstand.

Shahrzad is a video producer at Vyond, an online do-it-yourself platform for creating animated videos. She collaborates with Vyond's marketing, customer success, and sales teams to create engaging video content for customers and prospects. Before working at Vyond, Shahrzad worked as a freelance photographer and videographer, an advertising photography producer, a university lecturer, an assistant curator for a major art museum, and an arts journalist. She received her Ph.D. in Art History from University of California, Berkeley.

Lisa Eichel is the Assistant Director, MITx Program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology Open Learning. In her role, she supports the Director in managing the MITx team, and a variety of initiatives relating to MIT’s massive open online courses (MOOCs) and global learning. Her projects include MicroMasters programs, the Digital Learning Lab Fellows program, the MITx Faculty Advisory Committee, special projects, MOOC marketing and internal communications, the MITx Grant Program, and sublicensing, among others.

Prior to joining MIT, Lisa worked for the Center for Faculty Development & Diversity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Prof. Flodström is the Chief Education Officer of EIT Digital and a member of the Management Committee of EIT Digital. 

Prof. Flodström started his career in Palo Alto, USA, as a member of research staff in Xerox Palo Alto Research Center. Since 1985 he is professor in physics at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. Prof. Flodström has been the Secretary General of the Swedish Research Council for Engineering Sciences and President at Linköping University (LiU), Sweden. He was President of the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm until July 2007 when he was appointed University Chancellor for Swedish universities.

Alexandra Garatzogianni studied management, linguistics, media and communication. Her business interests focus on innovation and project management, international business development, software product management, startup consulting in physical and digital incubators and data-driven entrepreneurship. Rosa Garcia Calero was born in San Sebastian, Spain. She has a University degree in Pharmacy, specialised in the field of  Dietetics and Nutrition Programmes, an MBA by a Madrid Business School and a Master Degree in Quality for Services. For 3 years she worked in institutions linked to the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and became a teacher in Vocational Education and Training Schools. In 1995 she started working as International Relationship Manager in the Spanish Association of Educational Centres (CECE). In CECE she helped other members to build an European Network of VET centres interested in developing new projects in the field of education, specially related with IT and Research Programmes. She became Vice-President of EFVET (European Forum of Vocational Education and Training) in Brussels. She was also member of the Administration Council of ELLI (European Lifelong Learning Initiative); Spanish Delegate of ESHA (European Secondary Heads Association), and member of other European Associations directly linked with education.

She helped many organizations  in launching innovative programmes in IT, e-learning and life-long learning in a wide range of subjects. She worked as Project Manager in different National and European projects and also worked as a partner, coordinating the participation of Spanish members in several European projects.

After 13 years at The Open University, Hannah was asked to join Solera’s EMEA division to oversee the development and launch of their internal Business School, to train staff in 44 European Countries, with further expansion plans as part of the company’s 2020 vision.

Hannah joined The Open University in 2005, and developed a range of projects with students and academics, largely in on the theme of improving online communication methods within the web presence of The Open University, which utilised a range of emerging tools, platforms, and techniques to leverage student engagement.

In her last position at The Open University Hannah worked on several projects regarding the impact of social media on student engagement. With the developing movement towards social learning and its use of hosting on third party platforms, Hannah’s portfolio subsequently expanded to Senior Producer: MOOCs at The Open University. It was within this role coupled with the culmination of her experience across the domain that led to Hannah influencing and leading the development of aspects of The Open University’s free online learning platforms, OpenLearn and FutureLearn, with additional syndication arrangements to third party platforms.

Hannah has worked in both the public and private sections, and has graduated with five qualifications, including an MBA and an MSc, from The Open University. As an advocate of lifelong learning, Hannah was recently awarded her fifth qualification, a doctorate on the ‘Engagement of Informal Learners Undertaking Open Online Courses and the Impact of Design’, providing the academic field with the largest single source of MOOC engagement data to date.

In her professional career outside The Open University, Hannah also undertakes freelance consultancy in the field of social media with learning design and its impact on a range of industry sectors, and serves as an Online Executive Panel Member at McKinsey giving views on emerging technologies and the impact of social changes across the industry.

Denise Gramß from the University of Applied Management is a psychologist. During several years of research experience, she examined learning and human factors in human-machine interaction. Further, she has conducted research into fundamental learning competencies and digital learning in vocational education and training as well as learning processes in human-machine interaction. In the MeQ:ino project she is currently developing and shaping specialist concepts for describing and improving media competence and its implementation in various companies.

Jörg Hafer studied pedagogy, sociology and philosophy in Frankfurt a. M., Karlsruhe and Leiden (NL). He works in the e-learning sector since 1999, in an international company, then company founder and owner of an e-learning company. Activities include product development, didactic conception, consulting, lecturer and project manager including the development and implementation of e-learning solutions for companies and institutions. Since 2007 he has been increasingly involved in the AG eLEARNiNG (now: Teaching and Media at the Center for Quality Development) of the University of Potsdam (ZfQ), where he is head of department since 2010.

Fredrik Haugdal is working for the AV/Multimedia centre of NTNU, the largest university in Norway, with approximately 40,000 students in three different cities. Fredrik is part of the AV systems design team that is responsible for AV solutions in approximately 700 educational spaces. He has experience working for several sound system rental companies in Norway, and he used to carry out sound system and AV installations for a number of companies before he joined the AV team at NTNU. Fredrik has also worked with outside broadcast TV production for 15 years as a freelance sound engineer and floor manager. Today, he is part of the team that is responsible for developing new innovative learning spaces at NTNU. He is also project manager in a scheme that is looking into how to do cross campus lectures in real-time.

Dr Wayne Holmes is an Assistant Professor in Learning Sciences and Innovation, at The Open University (UK), a Research Expert at The Center for Curriculum Redesign (US), and a Visiting Professor at Universidade Federal de Alagoas (Brazil). He has been involved in education and education research for more than 25 years, receiving his PhD in Learning and Technology from the University of Oxford. His research is focused on the application of Artificial Intelligence in education (AIED): how might we use the potential of AI to both enhance and further understand learning, and how do we ensure that the application of AI in education is socially responsible? I started teaching 22 years ago. Quickly I became interested in finding out how students learn best, and how I could facilitate their learning process in the best possible way. I knew I had to find out what worked and what did not, thus my students became an important source to help me evaluate my teaching. By getting continuous feedback from my students, I could improve my classes daily, and gradually become a better teacher.

Being a teacher in different Norwegian and International schools was inspiring, but I felt that I could make more of a difference designing educational resources. When a position in NDLA opened up in 2008, I jumped at the opportunity, and have been working there since.

Today, I work as the CSO focusing on the users of the OERs. My team is responsible for more than 70 social media channels, marketing, and a large user test panel consisting of upper secondary students and teachers from all over Norway. Being in close contact with students and teachers give us the unique possibility of getting feedback on both our UX, our design and how to best design our resources for learning.

Christoph Janke ist a Software Engineering student at the CODE University of Applied Sciences.

While he was studying at Humboldt University Berlin Christoph realized that the classical educational approach does not work for him. From his work experience in online marketing he learned that learning and growing often happens outside a classroom in which a teacher or professor stands in the front and explains topics to students.

Jody is a technology enthusiast, and educator. He works at the Living Laboratory for Innovative Teaching University of Pretoria (LLITUP). The LLITUP Research unit aims at doing collaborative research in the use of technology in education in various setting with a multitude of stakeholders. Jody was a part of the development of a space, called the LLITUP Collaboratorium, which houses, tests and uses technology for innovation in education of all levels. When he is not playing with the devices in the Collaboratorium, Jody lectures ICT modules in the Faculty of education. Marko Jovanović acquired his engineering degree in Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Belgrade, School of Electrical Engineering (Belgrade, Serbia) in 2010. He acquired a Master's degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration from RWTH Aachen University (Aachen, Germany) in 2016. Achilles D. Kameas is Professor of Pervasive Systems with Hellenic Open University, Director of DAISSy Research Group and Vice Chair of the Board of ALL DIGITAL European network. He pioneered the realization of the Ambient Intelligence vision; nowadays he contributes to creating an inclusive society via the development of technology and the improvement of digital skills and scientific knowledge of citizens. Achilles has participated in more than 30 EU and national projects (coordinated more than 10 of them), has published over 150 articles, papers and chapters, and authored / co-edited more than ten books. Since 2016 he has founded an education & social policy consulting company, named Mind2Innovate, which is taking stock on the research and analysis legacy of the European MENON Network, continuing the policy and programme consulting work and supporting evidence-based policy making for education and other sectors of social-affairs policy making. Gunay Kazimzade is working at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society (the German Internet Institute) which is run by Technische Universität Berlin in cooperation with Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Universität der Künste Berlin as well as Universität Potsdam and Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems. Hello, I am Arnob Islam Khan, working as a co-investigator in the European Union’s Cooperative eLearning Platform for Higher Education in Industrial Innovation (CEPHEI) project at Lappeenranta University of Technology. My research interest lies in E-learning, Blended learning, flipped classroom, Learning analytics, Educational and Persuasive Technology. I work with Summa College for 13 years. Summa College is an institution for vocational eduaction. I started teaching at the school of sports. My passions are talentdevelopment and innovation. Due to this passion I grew in the organisation to the role of educational advisor. In this role I try to inspire teachers to work talentbased and to no only teach, but learn together with their students. From the start of my job at Summa College I also have the role as support provider of elite athlethes who want to combine their careers in elite sports and study. Prof. Gila Kurtz (Ph.D.) is currently head of the M.A. program in the Instructional Technologies faculty at Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) in Israel. Before joining HIT, she developed and managed an ICT and Learning M.A. Program at the College for Academic Studies, in Israel.

Since 2001, Prof. Kurtz serves as an Adjunct Professor at The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) Graduate School at the Master of Distance Education and E-learning Program where she co-developed and co-teach online courses.

Other positions of Prof Kurtz were:  head of interactive television satellite-based unit at the Open University of Israel (OUI) and a director of an e-learning center at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. Also, she was the Academic Vice President of a company that provided e-Learning solutions for the corporate industry.

She served as a director and the secretary of The International Board of Standards for Training, Performance, and Instruction,  (IBSTPI)  where she was a co-author of a book entitled: "Online Learner Competencies: Attitudes, Knowledge, and Skills for Successful Learning." For several years Prof. Kurtz was a member of the Steering Committee of the European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN). She serves as a member, Peer Review Board of The Journal of Educators Online and The European Journal of Open and Distance Learning. For several years Prof. Kurtz was the Editor-in-Chief of The Interdisciplinary Journal of E-Skills and Lifelong Learning (IJELL).

Martin Lemos is a digital media and didactic designer and educational researcher. He has a background in media design and specialized later in eLearning and didactics. For the last ten years, he has been working in the Audiovisual Media Center at the Faculty of Medicine, RWTH Aachen University in Germany. He and his team have developed various learning applications as well as blended learning concepts and modules for different educational programs: medical, dental and physiotherapy higher education. Rafał Lew-Starowicz is a deputy director at the Ministry of National Education in Poland, coordinates the educational policy of innovation in Poland. Graduated from the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science, the University of Warsaw and a PhD (ABD) at the Institute for Media Education, Faculty of Educational Sciences, at the University of Special Education.

As an employee of the Educational Research Institute, he participated in the evaluation of the “Digital School” Government Programme. Previously, he worked at the Office of the Ombudsman for Children, Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the MaterCare International in Kenya, and directed the work of organizations whose task was to increase the safety of children and youth in the electronic media.

Anja Lorenz, born in 1984, studied media and computer science in Dresden, Germany. Since working as research associate at Chemnitz University of Technology, she analyses appearance and contexts of learning content. Within this development, her investigations include open forms of research, teaching and knowledge sharing as well. As co-author of the L3T project, host of one L3T 2.0 booksprint camp, participant of several EduCamps and member of the eScience network saxony, she promotes the openness of public research processes. I am a Master's Candidate in Economics at the University of St. Gallen, currently finishing my courses and writing my master thesis. I work at the Institute for Insurance Economics (also at the University of St. Gallen).

Together with Sarah Nordt, Dr. Martin Eling, Martin Lehmann and Maté Solymosi, I developed the gamification toolbox for insurance education (http://app.ivw.unisg.ch/gamification/). The aim of the app is to provide a wide variety of teaching material concerning games and simulations to lecturers and professional educators to enhance their courses and their effects on the students/attendees. This toolbox won the Les B. Strickler Innovation in Instruction Award 2018 at the ARIA conference in Chicago, Illinois. We hope to broaden the positive impact of the app to many other fields of study.

Duncan is the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Manager for Canterbury Christ Church University in Kent, England. He has spent his whole career in education, and the last 15 years within TEL in Higher Education institutions across the UK. 

During that time he has developed specialisms in Digital Learning Capture (focusing on usage beyond the standard lecture capture model), Digital Capabilities and Virtual Learning Environments. He leads a Learning Technology Team that supports the four faculties at CCCU in the most effective use of TEL systems and approaches. Currently he is leading the project at CCCU to roll out Digital Learning Capture across the institution, chairing the University's Digital Capabilities Working Group, and spearheading the implementation of Jisc's Digital Experience Insights service within the institution.

Bernd Mahrin ist Maschinenbau-Ingenieur und Berufspädagoge. Selina Mayer has an academic background in business psychology and design thinking. These two fields add up to her overall interest in user-centered design and her passion for human behavior. By developing and conducting various professional education formats at the HPI Academy, she applies these fields of expertise in her working life on a daily basis. Selina facilitates and consults both method focused design thinking workshops, and solution driven long term projects. Having already worked for a globally operating engineering company and for a small Berlin Start-Up she is experienced with very different infrastructures of small, young but also big and traditional businesses. Ildiko is currently holding a position as Research and Development Associate at the Knowledge Innovation Centre (KIC) in Malta. She has been working in the field of open & distance education and e-learning since 1998, and for 3 years she served as Deputy Secretary General at the European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN). During these years Ildiko learned how to differentiate between robust ICT solutions and impracticable hypes, while she also played an active role in identifying when changes in policies and practices were needed to enable progress.

Throughout her career, both as employee and (since 2017) freelance consultant, she accumulated experience in research and development of innovative educational practices, as well as in facilitating their effective dissemination and multiplication. She has a deep understanding and knowledge of past and current EU funding mechanisms, the authoring and management of EU co-funded projects, and she enjoys collaborating with partners across borders, cultures and various educational and training sector.

Ildiko's current research interests are focusing on the standardisation of digital micro-credentials in higher education, the recognition and portability of open learning experiences and using blockchain technology in education.

Ann S. Michaelsen is a teacher /administrator at Sandvika High School in Norway. Dr. Ahmed Morsy holds a PhD in Instructional Technology, and works as an associate professor at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Academic Development and Initiatives department.

For 13 years, Ahmed was working an e-content development manager at the E-Learning Competence Center, Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. He joined Duisburg Essen University, Learning Lab as a visiting scientist (Germany) and he also joined the United Nations University as a project research consultant (Germany).

Ahmed works in designing and developing educational games for more than 5 years, and he has received 2 awards for developing innovative educational games from the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology for developing an Arabic literacy game (Mobile Application).

Magdalena Moś is an e-learning and adult education specialist working as a Training Project Officer in the Training Unit at Frontex (the European Border and Coast Guard Agency). Magdalena has a professional background in both academia and the corporate sector, where she has worked on the design, development and support of online and blended learning trainings. In these projects she combines appropriate methodology and technology to create innovative learning experiences tailored for the modern times and challenges of the European Border and Coast Guard community. Geoff Mulgan has been Chief Executive of Nesta since 2011. Nesta is the UK's innovation foundation and runs a wide range of activities in investment, practical innovation and research. Under his leadership it moved out of the public sector to become an independent foundation; greatly expanded its work, partly through creating new units, centres and funds in fields ranging from evidence and impact investment to challenge prizes and skills; and complemented its work in the UK with work in dozens of countries around the world.

Brian Mulligan is a Civil Engineer who originally worked in mathematical modelling and simulation and the application of information technology in engineering. He is currently on secondment as a Programme Manager responsible for online learning development and research, to the Centre for Online Learning at the Institute of Technology Sligo where he has lectured since 1984. He has been the key driver in the rapid growth in online distance learning in IT Sligo since 2002 and significantly involved in the growth of e-learning in Ireland since 1999, organising the EdTech series of conferences since 2000 and as a founding member of the Irish Learning Technology Association in 2002.  His main areas of expertise are now in web-casting, webinar management, synchronous online training, instructor-led online training, lecture capture, open education (MOOCs and OER) and the rapid development of online content. Paul Birevu Muyinda is an eLearning/mLearning specialist, a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Open and Distance Learning at Makerere University, Uganda. He holds a Bachelor of Statistics Degree from Makerere University, a Masters Degree in Computer Science and Application from Shanghai University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (ICT) from University of Cape Town and a PhD in Information System from Makerere University. I am a senior e-learning and e-research scientist/consultant at the Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS) of Freie Universität Berlin. I'm currently teaching courses and conducting cognitive neuroscience research on serious games.

I studied Veterinary Medicine and Cognitive Neuroscience and obtained my doctor degree in Veterinary Medicine from Freie Universität Berlin. My dissertation dealt with developing a virtual problem-based environment titled "Equine Virtual Farm" and investigating its influence on students’ cognitive performance. I believe strongly that this type of training environments will play a vital role in the non-pharmacological enhancement of creative thinking in healthy and impaired adults. In view of that, I'm currently working on investigating the influence of cognitive training within problem-based virtual environments on brain plasticity.

In addition and because I believe that mining knowledge and relationships can be extremely useful for developing machine experts in disease prophylaxis and therapy, I worked additionally in developing semantic computing algorithms using machine learning. My algorithms focused on discovering knowledge and retrieving relationships across different information resources in both scientific (e.g. PubMed) and humanities fields (e.g. First World War scholar articles).

Anthony Newman is the Senior Manager of Business Development for the Office of Vice President of Information Technology at Purdue University. In this role, Anthony is responsible for commercializing and scaling cutting edge technologies created by Purdue's IT Organization.

Formerly, Anthony led the Purdue Studio team where he was responsible for leading a creative team of developers and designers and students in the identification, development and delivery of digital applications based on customer needs, strategic vision and market research. Steven Ney completed his doctorate in the policy sciences at the Department of Comparative Politics in the University of Bergen. Trained as a policy analyst at the University of London, Steven Ney has worked on a wide range of policy issues in a number of research institutes including the LOS Center in Bergen, ICCR in Vienna and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg. After spending four years from 2005 as an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Singapore Management University, Steven Ney took up the Chair of Social Entrepreneurship at Jacobs University, Bremen in August 2009. Starting as a researcher of environmental issues, particularly climate change, Steven Ney has developed an interest in analysing the way societies deal with complex and uncertain policy challenges. Recently, Steven Ney has concentrated on social innovation and social entrepreneurship as a means of bringing about institutional change.

Dr Ming Nie is the Lecturer in Learning and Teaching in HE, The Univeristy of Northampton (www.northampton.ac.uk/ilt). Kari Nieminen received a MSc in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Theoretical Physics from University of Turku in 1979, got a permanent position at Tampere Teacher Training School in 1982. He continued his studies in Computer Science, Educational Science and Philosophy and received his Lic. Phil. from University of Tampere in 1993.

Nieminen specialized in Artificial Intelligence and worked as a Knowledge Engineer at the Technical Research Centre of Finland in 1990. He has experience from many different school-systems: International Baccalaureate (IB)-school of Tampere (1992-1996), European School of Luxembourg (1999-2006) and European School of Karlsruhe, Germany (2016-17).

Albert Nsengiyumva is an independent consultant in the fields of Technical and Vocational Skills Development and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Prior to this, he was a Cabinet Member in the Rwandan Government from 2011 to 2015 and have served as Minister of Infrastructure from 2011 to 2013 and Minister of State in charge of TVET from 2013 to 2015.Before joining the Cabinet, Mr. Nsengiyumva has respectively worked for the National University of Rwanda as Director of ICT, Ministry of Education as Coordinator of ICT in Education and Workforce Force Development Authority (WDA) as Director General. Dr. Dominic Orr is a British national, who has a doctorate in comparative education from the Technical University of Dresden. Following this doctorate, he was employed by the German Centre for Higher Education Research (DZHW), where he coordinated international projects. He has worked as external consultant for the OECD, UNESCO and the World Bank. He is currently senior researcher at FiBS-Research Institute for the Economics of Education and Social Affairs in Berlin, where he (inter alia) has completed a study for the International Council on Open and Distance Education (ICDE) on digital adaption of higher education provisions, is leading a project for the German government on the future of higher education and is leading work on a book for UNESCO on designing national policies for Open Educational Resources.  He is a member of the MIRVA project working on making recognition visible and actionable.

Ossiannilsson is an independent researcher, expert, advisor, consultant and quality reviewer in the fields of open online flexible and distance learning, including el-earning, technology enabled learning (TEL), (OOFAT) including OER and MOOCs. Her special focus is on quality, innovation, leadership, personal learning, and learning "just for me".

She has a long career in those areas, since year 2000, she worked at Lund University, Sweden. In addition, she works as a consultant and quality reviewer at several of the prestige national universities.

Prof Ossiannilsson was awarded the EDEN Fellow title in 2014, she became Open Education Europa Fellow in 2015, and in the Council of EDEN Fellows, from 2018.  She became Open Education Europa Fellow in 2015. In 2017 she became ICDE OER Advocacy Committee, Chair and Ambassador, as well as in the ICDE Global Quality Network, Europe.

She is frequently invited as keynote speaker for international, and national conferences, within the areas of OOFAT and quality. As the Vice Director of Research Center for Learning and Teaching Practices at MEF University, Dinçer’s goal is to support students and instructors with the latest educational technologies as tools to enhance the Flipped Learning pedagogy. He considers himself lucky to be working at MEF, as it is the best living lab for Flipped Learning research.  

 Now, as a PhD candidate in Computer Education and Instructional Technology at Middle East Technical University, Dinçer is also writing his thesis on Flipped Learning. He is specifically interested in the role of student  self-regulation within Flipped Learning.

Cristina Petracchi is heading the e-learning Center in the Capacity Development Unit in FAO, she manages and coordinates the design, development, delivery and language adaptations of e-learning courses, blended learning programmes and face-to-face training events, for the benefit of FAO member countries. Melchor Raval is a teacher of law at Monash College in Victoria, Australia where he also coordinates and leads the Commercial Law unit. Melchor strives to implement creative and unusual ways of thinking to help students understand difficult legal concepts. He also values the use of technology in the classroom to improve student engagement and participation. This inspired him to use virtual reality as a teaching tool.

Serge Ravet is Innovation Director at ADPIOS, a not for profit organisation created in 2010 to address the issues related to identity construction in a world where digital and networked technologies colonise an ever increasing space in our lives. ADPIOS is one of the outcomes of a ten year partnership between EIfEL, the European Institute for E-Learning, and Espace Mendès France (Poitiers, France), a leading centre for the diffusion of scientific, technical and industrial culture, with active international partnerships.

He is currently leading Badge Europe! and Europortfolio, two European initiatives which objective is to promote the development and use of digital technologies to empower individuals as reflective learners and practitioners, organisations as a place for authentic learning and society as a place for lifelong learning, employability and self-realisation.

Andreas Refsgaard is an interaction designer, artist and teacher from Denmark. He graduated from CIID in 2015 and started creative coding studio Støj with Lasse Korsgaard in 2017.

Andreas is the creator of Eye Conductor, which helps people express themselves through music using only their eyes and facial gestures.

His work switches between commercial projects for clients like Google Creative Labs and Carlsberg and more artistic installations.

Dr. Herwig Rehatschek studied Computer Science and Electronics and received his M.Sc. and his Ph.D. from the University of Technology, Graz. From 1997 until 2008 he worked at the non-profit research company JOANNEUM RESEARCH. His main emphasis was on eLearning and digital media analysis. He participated in many international EC projects and also managed and co-ordinated some of them. In 1999 Dr. Rehatschek won the Austrian state price in the category learning, knowledge and culture. In 2008 he joined the Medical University of Graz (MUG) as a head of the section organization of teaching including the virtual medical campus, the eLearning platform of the university. Since then he was actively involved in the set-up and implementation of the LMS and the development of learning content. He introduced virtualized lessons, a new virtual microscope, eLectures, and non-linear story telling in medical education. Since October 2017 he worked on the set-up of an automated lecture recording system. This system was successfully introduced during the last study year in a pilot trial and is since October 2018 in practical usage. He actively participated in the development of an eLearning training program for teachers provided by all nine universities in the federal state of Styria. He won in 2012 the Dr. Michael Hasiba price for innovative teaching, in 2017 he won the Austrian state prize “Ars Docendi” for innovative teaching for the implementation of a non-linear story telling concept for education in first aid.

Benjamin Reid is head of the International Innovation team within Nesta's Research, Analysis and Policy division, examining and promoting new global trends and practices in international collaboration for innovation. He leads Nesta's sixteen-'emerging powers'-country innovation policy collaboration programme, the Global Innovation Policy Accelerator, and its northern European digital skills policy programme, Digital Frontrunners. At Nesta he has also led projects to support the Malaysian government on business innovation investment, and on UK-China collaborations for innovation between small and medium enterprises.

Rolf Reinhardt works for LinkedIn, a global professional online network, at the intersection of government, education and corporate learning. By the time he had finished his Engineering degree in Media Technology, Rolf had worked on large digital transformation projects, for instance, for the L&D department of L’ORÉAL. Rolf later designed and managed complex eLearning projects mainly for corporate customers.

For over 25 years Martin Riemer has been involved in medical 3D-image processing research. This work resulted in a prototype of the subsequently published VOXEL-MAN 3D-Navigator anatomical medical atlases; which helped to introduce 3D virtual body models, made from tomographic data, to medical teaching. In the development group he was mainly responsible for the prototype, the user interface and the MS-Windows implementation of the 3D-Navigator.
Since 2003 he has concentrated on teaching Medical Computer Science and helped groups setting up eLearning at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) and the Hamburg Open Online University (HOOU).
His special interest is the creation and use of Virtual Patients and Serious Games. He has been awarded the “Hamburger Lehrpreis 2017“ for the Medical Faculty. Adam Roe joined CODE University of Applied Science as a lecturer in the summer of 2018.  He has previously worked in a myriad of fields.  Most recently, he was the CTO of Kiron, a social startup dedicated to enabling refugees to access to higher education. Dr. Sophia Rost completed her doctorate in philosophy at the University of Potsdam with a thesis on democracy and political theory. Since 2014 she works as a project manager in the field of quality management for higher education. Since then, she managed digital education projects. Recently, she and her team are concerned with the development of online assessment to check individual competencies and interests and to give an automatised response on how the interested person fits the profile of the chosen study program.  She also taught and held research positions in Potsdam, Dublin (Ireland) and Philadelphia (USA).

Germán Ruipérez (www.Ruiperez.org) is full professor of German Philology at Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED; Madrid, Spain) and of eLearning at Universidad Camilo José Cela (Madrid, Spain).

He has PhD's from Philipps-Universität Marburg (Germany) and from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), and he is Director of the Teaching and Linguistic Engineering Laboratory and of the German Philology Department at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) in Madrid (Spain).

In 1999/2000, he was the first Director of Advanced Technologies (CIO -Chief Information Officer) at UNED (one of the largest universities in Europe with around 260,000 students), and was responsible for the overall planning and introduction of eLearning at the university.

Albert Sangrà, Ph.D., is the Director for the UNESCO Chair in Education and Technology for Social Change. Professor and researcher at the Open University of Catalonia, Department of Psychology and Education. Maren Scheffel is an assistant professor within the Technology Enhanced Learning Innovations (TELI) department of the Open Universiteit’s Welten Institute, the Research Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology. With a background in computational linguistics she started to work in the field of technology-enhanced learning in 2009 and has since then been involved in the coordination and management (ROLE, LACE, CompetenSEA) as well as the research work (ROLE, LinkedUp, LACE, SHEILA, CompetenSEA, SafePAT) of several European projects. For her PhD that she obtained from the Open Universiteit in 2017, she developed the Evaluation Framework for Learning Analytics (EFLA). Patrícia Scherer Bassani (PhD) is professor and researcher at Feevale University (Brazil) where she is part of the faculty of the Post-Graduate Program in Cultural Diversity and Social Inclusion. She obtained her PhD degree in Educational Technology in 2006. Her research interests include digital inclusion, virtual communities, computer mediated interaction, online learning, mobile learning, and teacher formation. Tanja is a passionate futurist and has global experience in Strategic Foresight. She has double master degrees in Master of Business Administration and Master of Strategic Foresight from the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. Tanja has a broad knowledge of foresight methods and is experienced in scenario planning and undertaking foresight workshops. Prior to her post-graduate studies, Tanja worked for the Corporate Strategy department of Osram GmbH in Munich, Germany, where she implemented an Integrated Roadmapping and Strategic Foresight process. Former she worked for the Market Intelligence department, where she analyzed current and future competitors. 

Tanja also has a Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering with a Major in Electrical Engineering that she completed while working at Siemens AG in Stuttgart, Germany. At Siemens, her focus was also on market and competitive analysis as well as managing various software development projects.

She has the exceptional quality of inspiring people around her through her positive and passionate way of connecting with the audience. Through her global experience in Foresight, she sees the world from different angles and enables her audience to gain new insights. Her focus in the futures field lies in highlighting the advantages of futures thinking in the areas of Strategy, Innovation, and Leadership and to allow her audience to explore Foresight as on holistic philosophy how to lead an organization rather than a departments tasks.

Anita is the CEO and Co-Founder of Iris.ai; one of the 10 most innovative artificial intelligence startups in 2017 according to Fast Company. Iris.ai is an AI Science assistant, able to read, digest and connect scientific knowledge, that will grow up to be the world’s first AI Researcher within a decade.

Set out to democratize access to science, Iris.ai can reduce R&D departments’ time to map out existing research by 95% and remove current requirements of having deep domain expertise involved in the process, thus allowing more people to solve more difficult problems.

Anita is a highly sought after public speaker, voted one of the Nordic’s most inspiring women in tech, twice TEDx speaker and 500 startups, SU Global Grand Challenges Awards and TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield alumni. Anita is also the first Norwegian to attend Singularity University’s Global Solution Program in 2015 – and she put on the first Global Impact Challenge Norway in 2016.

Anita has never had what she refers to as “a real job” and Iris.ai is her fourth own startup. The past 10 years of her career have spanned over 9 industries including developing an e-learning tool in Silicon Valley, performing theatre for babies, reducing energy consumption in the process industry through heat exchanger network optimization, getting 30 (mainly middle-age, male) engineers to dance to ABBA in front of their co-workers, facilitating solar light business creation in Kenya, being in the centre of several startups crashing and burning, organizing entrepreneurial conferences and trying to disrupt the recruitment industry. She also dropped by 6 universities on the way. And built a race car.
