Martin Riemer

Lecturer, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Germany

For over 25 years Martin Riemer has been involved in medical 3D-image processing research. This work resulted in a prototype of the subsequently published VOXEL-MAN 3D-Navigator anatomical medical atlases; which helped to introduce 3D virtual body models, made from tomographic data, to medical teaching. In the development group he was mainly responsible for the prototype, the user interface and the MS-Windows implementation of the 3D-Navigator.
Since 2003 he has concentrated on teaching Medical Computer Science and helped groups setting up eLearning at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) and the Hamburg Open Online University (HOOU).
His special interest is the creation and use of Virtual Patients and Serious Games. He has been awarded the “Hamburger Lehrpreis 2017“ for the Medical Faculty. Being involved in teaching medical students in both real and virtual environments and software engineering he is familiar with pedagogical as well as technical aspects of eLearning.
