Leonie Ackermann is currently enrolled in the master programme Computing in the Humanities. After completing their bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature at Augsburg University in 2017 they were curious about the potential of the digital humanities to create new research tools and opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation.

Parallel to their studies they have been involved in the students’ movement since 2015. In 2017 and 2018 they have represented Germany’s national union of students (fzs) in the European Students’ Union and have gained insight into European higher education politics. Since September 2019 they are part of fzs’s executive committee. Their focus is international higher education politics, quality of teaching and learning, and digitization.

Since October 2019 they are also part of the HFD working group #DigitalChangemaker.

Shirley Alexander is Professor of Learning Technologies at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) where she is Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice President (Education and Students).

She has been a member of three successive national government committees advising on improvements to higher education teaching and learning and chaired a national committee advising the Minister for Education on the best uses of technology in K-12 education.

Shirley has led the learning.futures strategy at UTS (https://www.uts.edu.au/research-and-teaching/learning-and-teaching/learningfutures/how-our-students-learn). At this time, UTS has almost completed a major campus redevelopment and building program at a cost of approximately $1.5 billion and Shirley has led the initiatives to ensure the new learning spaces are designed for the future of education.

Mildred Atieno Ayere is a senior lecturer in the Department of Educational Technology and Curriculum Studies, Maseno University.

I teach Educational Technology courses at the University to undergraduate and post-graduate students. Currently I serve as the acting Director eCampus where I provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of appropriate policies in eLearning and virtual learning at the University.

Earlier on, I worked as a high School teacher in Mathematics, a teacher trainer in Mathematics education and a staffing officer with the Teachers’ Service Commission, Kenya. In addition to the teaching experience, I am an entrepreneur in teacher education and a practitioner and a trainer in the Times Travel Methodology: An educational method that uses local heritage in a learning process, to create reflection on contemporary issues, and provide tools for community building.

My primary research interests include innovative and online learning methodologies; ICT integration in pedagogy; Interactive learner centred methodologies in teaching and learning in general and Mathematics education in particular; online examination systems; Mathematics in the Historic Environment; and use of Time Travel method in democracy, peace building and social cohesion

Paul Bacsich is the Founder and Managing Director of Matic Media Ltd, a consultancy in the UK active in online learning since 1996. He is also Professor of Practice for the University of West Indies Open Campus, which is headquartered in Barbados.

In addition he consults for the SeroHE division of Sero Consulting Ltd as a Senior Associate: he was a member of the Sero team who recently reviewed Learning Technology Support at the University of Oxford, and currently he is leading a 12-month project at Sero to develop an accredited vocational short online course to teach teachers to teach online for Wey Education (who run Interhigh Virtual School and other similar entities).

He is also Visiting Professor for University of Derby Online Learning (UDOL) in the UK.

He has a long-standing interest in Open Education via a large EU project (POERUP) and several EU/European Parliament studies: in particular he is Co-Coordinator of the Open Education Working Group and an Ambassador for the global advocacy of OER and a member of the OER Advocacy Committee of ICDE.  He was a co-author for the JRC 2017 report “Policy Approaches to Open Education in 28 Member States”.

His interests in leadership in e-learning were developed during the Erasmus+ D-TRANSFORM project 2014-17, which drew on and continued his work over 20 years on management of open and distance learning.

In addition to his public work he consults for a number of international, government, commercial, venture fund and university clients on market/competitor/pricing research, policy, education funding models and retention strategies. He has recently finalised a report on credit recognition and transfer for online masters' programmes, for a university client in Canada.

In 2015-16 Paul chaired the review panel for the Vision and Strategy Appraisal of the UK Open University Library, where he interviewed over 70 staff and students and carried out substantial comparative and policy research. He also chaired the E-learning review panel for Uppsala University, with three days of intensive meetings and presentations, and spent four months chairing a task force for the National Forum for Learning and Teaching in Ireland to prepare a scoping document on infrastructure issues related to online learning.

Some of his recent thinking can be found in his UNESCO policy brief on "Alternative Models of Education Delivery" and in a paper for the "Open Education 2030" higher education workshop run by the EU. He remains very interested in "Multiversity" models and competence-based provision, based on his earlier studies on "Time and e-learning", developed from a speech given in Austria, a country with which he has increasing links.

He is a co-founder of MultEversity, a start-up in online/blended post-secondary education which aims in due course to be an accredited university and higher vocational provider. Garnet Berry works at LinkedIn, with a focus on supporting organisations upskill their staff and students. 

Having a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Garnet spent the early part of his career teaching IT and Business Studies within secondary education.  As he began to use technology in the classroom, he saw first-hand the impact this was having on his teaching and learning.  

Garnet then transitioned to working with some well-known organisation within Edtech such as Pearson and Moodle HQ.  Now with the power of LinkedIn's Economic Graph insights along with his teaching experience he has acquired a unique perspective of the digital learning ecosystem. 

Since the last two years I've been investigating how virtual and augmented reality can be used for training in both education and enterprises. At our research group of Creative and innovative business at Thomas More University of Applied Sciences we do not merely focus on learning outcomes, but also on usability and motivation. We've carried out several proof of concepts on different subjects. At Ghent University I am a doctoral student focussing on the implementation of virtual reality technology in secondary education, with a strong emphasis on the empirical integration in the classroom itself.

Dr. Elizabeth Boyle is a reader in Psychology at the University of the West of Scotland with wide ranging interests in varied aspects of psychology including cognition, skills, attitudes, self, identity, motives and emotions.

Recently her research has focused on psychological aspects of technology and e-learning, looking especially at engagement and learning in digital games and individual difference characteristics of social media users. She has published journal and conference papers, edited books and book chapters in these areas.

Over the past 8 years she has been Principal Investigator on 3 European projects that have involved the design, development and evaluation of serious games (RU EU?, Youth@work and CHERMUG). These projects are all at the cutting edge of technology, looking at how the features of games that engage players can be used to support learning. Jane Bozarth is a veteran classroom trainer who transitioned to eLearning in the late 1990s and never looked back. As leader of the State of North Carolina USA's award-winning eLearning program, Dr. Bozarth specializes in finding low-cost ways of providing online training solutions. Professor Brekke is vice rector for education for the period 1 August 2019 - 31 July 2023.

As vice rector for education, Brekke heads the Academic Affairs Committee. He also leads the work developing a strategy in the priority area Learning and Education for the Future, with special emphasis on developing a future oriented educational leadership.

Brekke has been working at UiA since 1993. Throughout his career, he has focused on quality and development in teaching. He has a central role in MatRIC, an international centre for mathematics didactics, which has been appointed a Centre for Excellence in Education.

He wants to make room for development and testing of different teaching methods which will improve the quality of learning outcomes - and also disseminate the knowledge created.

Brekke has long been a role model in the pedagogical uses of video and other digital technologies in mathematics teaching, and he has published several articles on the topic. In 2018, he was awarded Excellent Teaching Practitioner as the first recipient at UiA.

Brekke has a goal of improving students’ achievements; he therefore emphasises quality culture and systematicity to improve quality in the field of education. He is particularly concerned with building a good and inclusive learning environment.

In keeping with the university’s ambitions for the skills reform “Learning throughout life”, Brekke strives to highlight and strengthen alumni relations and continuing education at UiA.

Brekke was formerly a college lecturer, university lecturer and assistant professor and received his Cand. Scient. in theoretical astrophysics from the University of Oslo.

Assistant Professor at ØUC since 2018. My work and research revolves around teaching and learning in digital environments, both in classrooms and online. I am particularily interested in teachers' professional digital competence (PDC), digital agency and what being a 21st century teacher entails.

Prior to this I have worked as an Upper Secondary School teacher for 11 years, and I have been a pedagogic project leader in a Norwegian company offering training for schools/ teachers to increase their PDC.

My current and prior positions all focus on training, teaching and organizing learning for students and teachers, which also includes speaking to and lecturing for various audiences. I have attended several edtech conferences the past five years as a speaker, presenting pedagogical ideas and theoretical perspectives on teachers' PDC.

Being a teacher in this digital age is a hugely important, complex and rewarding task - and I love it!

Annelies Calmeyn is a member of the KU Leuven MOOC-team, training and guiding teachers in the creation of MOOCs. After being a researcher in ecology, she produced her own MOOC on tropical soil science, gaining personal experience with all aspects of the development of a MOOC. Now she combines this experience with a passion for science communication and education to support course teams in their MOOC-journey. At the same time, she also works as an educational software consultant within the ICTS-department of the KU Leuven.

Born in Australia, and holding conjoint Swiss and Australian citizenship, Richard Cannane is Trafigura's Global Learning and Development Manager since October 2015. He started with the company in 1999 and has held various positions including Global Operations Manager while managing global teams and logistics strategies across more than 30 countries. Richard is a certified executive coach and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of NSW as well as an MBA from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. Dr Anne-Marie Chase is the Course Coordinator for Postgraduate Courses and Online Learning. In this role she is responsible for the effective management of postgraduate courses at ACER, including curriculum that aligns teaching, learning and assessment approaches in a strong pedagogical framework. Anne-Marie coordinates a team of online facilitators, student administration and technical support staff to provide a high quality student experience in line with ACER policies. She also coordinates the input of subject matter experts who have academic oversight of the courses. Dr Chase has worked in initial teacher education with a focus on development for online delivery and managing the professional experience component. Dr Chase has experience as a researcher and lecturer in teacher education and online learning in Australia and the UK. Her research has focused on information technology in learning and more recently on teaching and learning online. Dr Chase has a background teaching in secondary education in both the government and non-government sector in the UK and Australia. Dr Chase has managed school-based projects with a focus on digital technology in education for the Department of Education and Multimedia Victoria, developing professional learning for teachers and encouraging the growth of online learning communities.

Søren Vrist Christensen is a Danish high school teacher and pedagogical coordinator at Marselisborg Gymnasium, whose teaching is grounded in blended learning theories.

Working as a teaching consultant, he has given countless of presentations to both private-owned and public organizations and firms in recent years about his teaching practices.

As Technology Director at HEC, Jacques leads collaborative initiatives in technological R&D, in cooperation with French universities, high-tech companies from the Systematic Paris Region cluster and academic partners from Europe and French-speaking Africa.

These projects involve next-generation networks, distance learning as well as evaluation and learning analytics.

Jacques is the coordinator for the PERICLES project, an e-education project from the national Investments for the Future program (Programme des Investissements d'Avenir).

He is a member of the French delegation to ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36, Secretary for AUNEGE, the French OER repository for Management & Economics, a member of the Steering Committee for Telecommunications at Systematic Paris Region and an expert for the French Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

Jacqueline Daniell is CEO of Wey Education Plc, a leading online education company in the U.K. She is one of the founders of both InterHigh School and Academy21. She was previously the Chief Executive of InterHigh School where she led the operations and strategic direction with full responsibility for all the online school service delivery.

Jacqueline studied Architecture at Nottingham University, and later gained Masters degrees both in Management and in Town and Country Planning. She spent much of her career working in Project Management, creating and implementing sustainable regeneration programmes both in the Midlands and in South Wales. In 2005 she became involved in the design of an online secondary School – InterHigh, then gaining international and domestic Quality accreditations for this provision.

Bert’s professional life is all about competent people. He thinks, publishes, consults, designs and sets up learning and development projects for corporations. His areas of expertise include technology enhanced learning and leadership development.

Bert has been active in the field of corporate learning and e-learning for the last 20 years, first as instructor and course designer, later as project manager, consultant and business development manager. He worked at IBM Learning Development Europe where he was responsible for commercial e-learning development projects across Europe, and the management of the learning innovation initiatives. Six years ago he joined the Center for Creative Leadership where he is now a faculty and EMEA's IP & Innovation Lead. Bert wrote the book 'Homo Competens – Let’s talk about competent people in the network age', frequently speaks at conferences such as OEB and blogs.

Bert is currently a faculty member of the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) EMEA office. In his role he designs and develops customized leadership interventions and programs for clients. He is also the IP and Innovation Lead, making knowledge flow and orchestrating innovation initiatives.

Inge de Waard (PhD) is currently leading the learning part of an InnoEnergy project that alleviates skill and competency gaps by combining Artificial Intelligence (AI, specifically Natural Language Processing), Human Resources (HR), learning analytics to provide a personalised learning trajectory (including micro-credits, blockchain in education, informal and formal learning options...). This project combines the expertise of people working at InnoEnergy, The Open University (UK), FutureLearn and many European University partners working on renewable energy.

Since 1999, Inge has set-up, coordinated and developed several innovative online, blended and mobile learning projects, always with a focus on participation and durability. These projects involved partners and individuals from both the Northern (Canada, United States, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Germany, UK) and Southern regions (South-Africa, India, Peru, Morocco). As an avid enthusiast of open science, she is an active international speaker giving keynotes and guest lectures, as well as providing and receiving knowledge input through seminars, SIGs and workshops.   

Enlightened by the first connectivist MOOCs, she set up the first MOOC on mobile learning, called MobiMOOC (2011 & 2012). This was a community and project-oriented MOOC, enabling international learners to realize their own project by the end of the MOOC.

Her core sentiment on learning is: “I have come to realize that there is no single solution for all. The diversity which is at the core of nature’s success, is replicated by the diversity in learning preferences and ways to achieve learning success in humans”. I am originally a robotics and embedded software developer at the University of Magdeburg, who became obsessed with programming paradigms.

Due to my participation in the “Industrial eLab” project, which tries to make university hardware online accessible to students anytime and anywhere, I had to shift to web-development.

Developing educational content for this purpose with the common Learning Management Systems (LMS) and authoring-tools was simply not satisfying and did not meet my expectations. Paulyn Duman is the Knowledge Management, Communications and Reporting Officer at the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development, where started working in 2014. At the UNSSC, she worked in the design and development of online courses and the integration of learning technologies in the programmes. She is the UNSSC coordinator for UN SDG:Learn, which is a United Nations initiative that aims to bring relevant and curated learning solutions on sustainable development topics to individuals and organizations. She also designed and developed an interactive 360-degree immersive learning experience on a city undergoing transformative changes towards a more sustainable future. 

Before working for the United Nations, she worked as a lawyer and supervising political affairs officer at the House of Representatives, where she conducted legal research and drafted guidelines related to education, transportation, and legislative franchises. Before joining the public sector, she worked in companies such as JP Morgan Chase Bank and Energy Development Corporation from 2006 to 2009.

Paulyn has a Master of Public Policy degree from the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin, where she focused on organizational strategies for sustainable development, policy processes in developing countries, and migration. Dr Harold Elletson is an International Communications Consultant and Senior Fellow of the Institute for Statecraft.

He is a founding director of the Africa Forum on Business, Investment and Security, a member of the steering committee of OEB, a member of the Organising Committee of eLearning Africa and a consultant to ICWE GmbH. He is also the editor of The eLearning Africa Report.

Dr Elletson was previously Director of the NATO Forum on Business and Security, which he created with support from the NATO Science Programme.

A former Member of the United Kingdom Parliament (from 1992-1997), he served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in the early stages of the peace process and was also a member of the Select Committee on Environmental affairs. He served as a member of the Lancashire Education Authority (the Education Committee of Lancashire County Council) before being elected to Parliament where he represented the interests of schools and colleges in his constituency in discussions with Ministers and on the floor of the House of Commons. He is a Fellow of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme and of the Industry and Parliament Trust.

As a communications and public affairs specialist, he has advised many leading companies on aspects of their business in challenging markets, including BP in Azerbaijan and Alstom in Siberia. He has written widely on political and historical subjects and his first book, The General Against the Kremlin, that was published by Little Brown. His journalism has been published in a variety of newspapers and magazines. Dr Elletson holds a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Bradford. 

Joanna Emmerich is a Talent Development Consultant at the European Patent Office. Joanna joined the EPO in 2018. She is managing the newcomer onboarding programme and focusing on modernizing the operations within the Talent Development team.

Prior to joining the European Patent Office, Joanna worked for 10 years at Google in Poland, Argentina, Ireland and Germany in variety of roles in Learning and Development space: as global peer-to-peer development lead, curriculum manager for all soft skills training, and programme manager for global onboarding, among others.

The European Patent Office with around 7000 employees focuses on the search and examination of patent applications and the grant of European patents.

Dr. Caroline Fell Kurban is the Director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at MEF University, Istanbul. Being one of the drivers of Flipped Learning at MEF University, her role sees her: developing learner training support in Flip for students; providing professional development for instructors developing and teaching Flipped courses; and developing quality assurance parameters to ensure the successful implementation and continuation of Flipped Learning at MEF University. Mariya Gabriel is the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, Youth and Sport. Under her leadership the new Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, and the cultural strand of Creative Europe programmes (2021-2027) will be defined and implemented.

Her main priorities are excellence in research, innovation and education (ERA, EEA, EIA) ; tackling the R&I divide in Europe ; Europe as a leader in strategic innovation areas through the digital and green transition, with a particular attention to young people and regions. “No one left behind” and “Think out of the box” are her mottos.

Social Innovation – Gender Equality – Digital Inclusion

Iffat Gill is an experienced international NGO leader-activist, digital strategist, and social entrepreneur working on gender equality and economic empowerment of women through digital inclusion. With more than 14 years of experience in the non-profit sector, Iffat founded ChunriChoupaal as a training and capacity building initiative for the social and economic empowerment of women in remote areas of the world. Iffat launched ‘The Code To Change’ to bridge the gender and e-skills gap in the technology industry.

Ms. Gill has a strong focus on up-skilling and re-skilling the current talent pool to meet the ever growing and evolving needs of the digital economy.

Her recent success, The Code To Change Pakistan, has trained 80 women in digital skills and the project is now gearing up to launch an extensive program for female entrepreneurs in Southern Punjab, in partnership with Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and Techstars US. The venture is also supporting 200 teachers to build their digital skills in disadvantaged communities of Punjab, Pakistan to enable continued education of children from slum areas.

Iffat has been at the forefront of shaping the policy debate of women’s digital inclusion for close to a decade at grassroots and international level. She has advocated for gender equality through economic empowerment and digital empowerment at the UN’s World Summit on the Information Society-WSIS Forum, the UN’s Internet Governance Forum and the European Parliament.

Iffat's project 'Community Technology Center for Women' in rural Pakistan won the Syster's Award from the Anita Borg Institute and led her to start ChunriChoupaal and The Code To Change.

Iffat’s work has been featured in more than three publications by German government.[1]

Her latest venture is a social enterprise; an Artificial Intelligence enabled EdTech & online Marketplace that aims to train women from global south and connect them to employment opportunities globally. She aims to build a platform that will utilize AI to match the skills of the trainees and connect them to entrepreneurs looking for those skills. The AI will also analyze how the growth trajectory of a trainee will look like if they want to keep growing.

Anne Gilleran has many years’ experience in education in various different roles including being a school principal and teacher trainer. She has extensive experience in Information Communication Technology in Education both at in practice and research. Torunn Gjelsvik (born 1970) has more than 16 years of experience from the field e-learning and ICT in education. As head of development for the E-learning Centre at BI Business School and rector and managing director of two Norwegian online schools Torunn has developed both highly strategic and operative expertise in distance and flexible education, social media and the use of technology in teaching and learning. In 2013 Torunn was engaged as project manager for Flexible Education Norway and published the report: «Innovation and challenge – pedagogical development of Norwegian distance education institutions 1995-2015». In 2018 Nik Gowing co-authored (with Chris Langdon) “Thinking the Unthinkable”. In this era of a new disruption leaders reveal that they are ‘scared’, ‘confused’ and ‘overwhelmed’ especially by the new short termism. Nik founded the ongoing, dynamic project in 2014.

Nik was a main news presenter for BBC World News 1996-2014. He presented The Hub with Nik Gowing, BBC World Debates, Dateline London.

For 18 years he worked at ITN.  He was bureau chief in Rome and Warsaw, and Diplomatic Editor for Channel Four News (1988-1996). He has been on the councils of Chatham House (1998–2004), the Royal United Services Institute (2005–present), the Overseas Development Institute (2007-2014), the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (1996-2005).

I begun my career at Yrkesinstitutet Sydväst, a Finland-Swedish vocational collage, in 2000 as a teacher. When Yrkesinstitutet Sydväst merged into Axxell Vocational College in 2008, I was given the task to develop an international strategy that would enable equal rights to students and staff members to take part in international mobilities. I was also included in the task of developing tools/methodologies that would help Axxell involve employers and work mentors in the work of developing a modern pedagogy answering the needs of the labour market. During my years as Expert of International Affairs, I have been managing several European project focusing on improving/updating students´and teachers´skills and thus making sure that Axxell reasponds to the needs and demands of the working life.  

In 2018 I begun managing an Erasmus+ KA2 project called VET@work in which I collaborate with VET providers and employers in Finland, UK, Iceland, Netherlands and France. The aim of this projectcollaboration is to develop tools and methodologies that help VET@providers and employers to start collaborating and developing a joint pedagogy that provides students with the needed 21st century skills

Prof. Dr. Uta Hauck-Thum has been a professor for primary school education and didactics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich since 2018. Graham Hudson works with professional organisations, government ministries and development programmes both nationally and internationally. His focus is on helping organisations get better outcomes from their examinations and assessments by improving the reliability and validity of assessments.  He helps organisations make the change to digital systems and is an expert in supporting them through successful procurement. He has over 35 years experience in the industry and has been responsible for marking the UK's national curriculum tests as well as the introduction of marking from image technology nationally and internationally. Onur Karademir is a M.Sc. Computer Science student at the Goethe University Frankfurt. He is working on several EdTech Projects as a software developer and coordinator. Together with his team, he is developing a Data Driven Quiz App with Gamification-Elements which is used by over 1000 students.

Doctor of Letters from the University of Lausanne since 2013, my thesis is devoted to the authority of discourse in Vaud school textbooks. It is entitled Autorité du discours - Discours d'autorité: les manuels d'histoire vaudois (1938-1998). 

Following on from my thesis, my work in history didactics focuses on the issues of multiperspectivity in the teaching of the history of one's own country.

The other axes of my reflections and researches concern the use and use of media (films, video games) and technologies (Web 2.0) in teaching and interactions to public history.

For the past two years, my work has focused on the possible links between computational and historical thinking and the place of doing (Maker) in the teaching of history. Overall, the question of digital skills in history teaching occupies an important place in my reflections and research.

I am 40 years old and have more than ten years of teaching experience.

My largest interest as an educator is trying to motivate students to learn complex and interdisciplinary subjects by offering them an accessible and holistic approach. This has led me to many different genres of teaching. 

For the past two years, we have developed learning videos, focused on maintaining a professional, interdisciplinary approach - but with a degree of humor.

Brian Mulligan is a Civil Engineer who originally worked in mathematical modelling and simulation and the application of information technology in engineering. He is currently Manager of Online Learning Innovation in the Centre for Online Learning at the Institute of Technology Sligo where he has lectured since 1984. He has been the key driver in the rapid growth in online distance learning in IT Sligo since 2002 and significantly involved in the growth of e-learning in Ireland since 1999, organising the EdTech series of conferences since 2000 and as a founding member of the Irish Learning Technology Association in 2002.  His main areas of expertise and interest are now in web-casting, webinar management, synchronous online training, instructor-led online training, lecture capture, open education (MOOCs and OER) and the rapid development of online content. Morten E. Møller is a member of the Virtual Learning Technology (VLT) team at Roskilde University, Denmark, and works with the implementation of virtual learning technologies, besides teaching in molecular biology. The VLT team is conducting a three-year educational development and research project, where technologies such as virtual laboratories (VR and desktop) and educational videos are introduced in undergraduate programs within natural sciences. Pak Tee NG [National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University] is a Singaporean educator who is deeply involved in the development of school and teacher leaders. At the NIE, he previously served as Associate Dean Leadership Learning and Head of the Policy and Leadership Studies Academic Group.  His main work is in educational change, policy and leadership.

Pak Tee has spoken at many global events, for example, Google Global Education Symposium, International Baccalaureate Global Conference, and Scottish Learning Festival. Katja Ninnemann develops, implements and investigates innovative learning and working environments to link the physical and the virtual world while taking into account organizational, social and spatial aspects.

She studied Architecture and Urban Development at Technische Universität Darmstadt and wrote her doctoral thesis at Technische Universität Wien about innovation processes and the potentials of hybrid learning spaces at universities. From 2019 to 2020 she held the visiting professorship Corporate Learning Architecture at Technische Universität Berlin to teach and do research on the topic of spatial design processes and spatial design practices of hybrid environments.

Albert Nsengiyumva is an independent consultant in the fields of Technical and Vocational Skills Development and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Dr Steve Nwokeocha is a Nigerian citizen, from Imo State. He is educated in three separate Nigerian universities – the University of Calabar; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; and Bayero University, Kano. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Sociology; and Masters  and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees both in Industrial Sociology. He also has a Masters Degree in Business Administration and Post Graduate Diploma in Education.

He began public service in 1983 as a staff of the Office of Auditor General for the Federation of Nigeria and later in 1990 moved on to the Federal College of Education as a Lecturer in Educational Management and Foundations. He rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Educational Management and Foundations. In 2002, he joined the services of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), an agency of the Federal Ministry of Education responsible for the regulation of the teaching profession at all levels of the Education system in Nigeria. In the same year he became the pioneer Director of Operations of the Council on acting basis, a position he held till 2008 when he was confirmed as a substantive Director by Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of the Education on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

TRCN came into existence in 2000 and the success of the organisation for the ten year period spanning 2002-2012 is a story of the his strategic leadership of the organisation where he was second only to the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer in terms of designing and implementing organizational reforms and development. Under his tutelage, TRCN expanded from its one centre (Abuja) status to a phenomenal national organisation with offices, staff, huge resources and goodwill in all 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory. TRCN through his diplomatic engagements networked with other teaching regulatory authorities in Africa, giving birth to the current Africa Forum of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA), which unanimously adopted TRCN as its Headquarters. Dr Steve Nwokeocha consequently serves as AFTRA Executive Director. Through his international networks, TRCN also became a prominent member of the International (World) Forum of Teaching Regulatory Authorities, IFTRA.

Being a Director of Operations of a national organisation recognized formally as an academic institution regulating the education, practice, ethicss and other aspects of teachers/teaching from primary to the university levels throughout Nigeria – academics has been his primary sector/domain. He therefore has served in various levels of Educational policy-making and implementation in Nigeria up to being a member of the National Council on Education which is the highest decision-making body in Education in Nigeria. He has been awarded the Fellowship of several national and international organisations among which is the prestigious Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) and the College of Teachers, London.

Micha Pallesche is the principal of the Ernst-Reuter-Gemeinschaftschule in Karlsruhe, a school with an award-winning media education profile.

After his studies at the University of Education in Karlsruhe (Germany), where he completed additional studies in media education, he was seconded to the State Media Centre of Baden-Württemberg for many years in addition to his teaching profession.

Since 2012, he has been working on his doctorate at the Heidelberg University of Education at the Institute for Art, Music and Media in the field of media didactics and has been developing media concepts for interactive whiteboards and mobile devices together with teachers. Patrick Parrish is Chief of Training Activities Division in the Education and Training Office of the World Meteorological Organization, in Geneva, Switzerland. He has been an instructional designer and training manager for 25 years, with a primary focus on distance learning solutions. In 2008 he earned a PhD in Education with an emphasis on the design of engaging learning experiences, and has published many journal articles and book chapters on related topics, which have received over 1000 citations. For 20 years, he worked with the COMET Program in the development of education and training resources in meteorology and other geosciences topics, primarily for professional continuing education, before coming to WMO in 2012.

Patrick’s work is driven by a fascination with the processes of learning and the challenges of training, particularly the challenge of engaging learners with intrinsically motivating learning experiences. Just Kjærgård Pedersen is an Associate Professor with Cphbusiness, where he for the past 5 years he has lectured on project management, strategy, marketing and methodology.

Just holds a CEMS MiM degree as well as a M.Sc. in Economics and Business Administration from CBS. Just has over a decade of experience with consulting and business development in the energy sector, where he has managed a number of strategic projects for Ørsted and BP.

Cristina Petracchi is heading the e-learning Center in the Capacity Development Unit in FAO, she manages and coordinates the design, development, delivery and language adaptations of e-learning courses, blended learning programmes and face-to-face training events, for the benefit of FAO member countries. Within the context of the position she holds, Ms Petracchi also consolidates partnerships with United Nations agencies, academic institutions and universities, regional organizations, CSOs and NGOs. In addition to a university degree in Biological Sciences, Ms Petracchi holds a PhD in Nutrition and Food Science, and has several years of experience of capacity development activities in India, Ethiopia, Nepal, Namibia, Senegal and Mali. Dr. Andreas Pippow is head of the center for continuous learning in data science at Fraunhofer FIT. Dr. Pippow gained his PhD in neuroscience in 2008 and joined Fraunhofer in 2011. As a Fraunhofer research manager, he is particularly committed to the transfer of Fraunhofer's technologies and knowledge.

This includes establishing appropriate internal structures and understanding needs of customers. He sees continuous learning as an important transfer path for a knowledge organization like Fraunhofer.

I am 38 years old and have ten years of teaching experience.

I have a special interest in experience economics, service design, method and digital technologies. But most importantly; an interdisciplinary holistic approach to learning!

For two years I have been working on developing learning videos. The focus is with a professional approach, to be able to deliver messages with a certain degree of humor!

It is difficult to create relationships in "traditional" online teaching - but at The ServiceShow, we try to lower this barrier to interaction. Our videos are made based on the questions and wonders we receive from students. In addition, we have a weekly online "mailbox", where we answer current challenges from our students.

Dr. Herwig Rehatschek studied Computer Science and Electronics and received his M.Sc. and his Ph.D. from the University of Technology, Graz. From 1997 until 2008 he worked at the non-profit research company JOANNEUM RESEARCH. His main emphasis was on eLearning and digital media analysis. He participated in many international EC projects and also managed and co-ordinated some of them. In 1999 Dr. Rehatschek won the Austrian state  price in the category learning, knowledge and culture. In 2008 he joined the Medical University of Graz with the main responsibility for the development of the eLearning platform of the university. Since then he was actively involved in the set-up and implementation of the LMS, the development of eLectures, the introduction of a new virtual microscope and the design of a teacher training course (eDidactics – http://www.edidactics.at). He won in 2012 the Dr. Michael Hasiba price for innovative teaching and in 2017 the Austrian state price „Ars Docendi“ for innovative teaching in the category “innovative teaching models having a huge number of students” by implementing a non-linear-story telling concept within first aid and emergency medicine. In 2017 he started a pilot trial with a new lecture recording system. Until begin of 2018 one hundred recordings were online and available to all students of the university. In 2019 a new software platform for the lecture recording system was introduced which also offered a video portal functionality. By mid of 2020 subtitles were added and more than 770 recordings were available.

Andreas Schleicher is Director for Education and Skills, and Special Advisor on Education Policy to the Secretary-General at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

He initiated and oversees the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and other international instruments, like the OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) and the Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC), which create a global platform for policy-makers, researchers and educators to innovate and transform educational policies and practices.

He has worked for over 20 years with Ministers and educational leaders around the world to improve quality and equity in education. U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan said about Andreas in The Atlantic (7/2011) that “He understands the global issues and challenges as well as or better than anyone I’ve met, and he tells me the truth”. Secretary of State Michael Gove in the United Kingdom called Andreas “the most important man in English education”, never mind that he is German and lives in France.

Born in Kassel, Germany, Dr. Julia Anna Schönherr started her mechanical engineering studies at the University of Kassel in 2008 and continued 2 years later at Leibniz University, Hanover specializing in biomedical engineering and mechanics, graduating with her masters in 2014.

During her Master thesis, she joined the company Otto Bock in Vienna for half a year and stayed in the beautiful capital of Austria before starting her PhD at the Institute of Materials Science and Technology at TU Wien, in March 2014.

In TU Wien’s AM group, led by Prof. Stampfl, she worked on additive manufacturing for biomedical application, with a focus on 3D-printed dental restoration made of ceramics.

Dr Michelle Selinger has extensive experience helping governments and educational institutions around the world in both developed and emerging economies to create and evaluate strategies for technology enhanced education reform. She has an academic background in digital education in both campus-based and distance education.

She was responsible for technology across the curriculum in the Open University’s distance taught initial teacher education programme and led pioneering work on teacher collaboration. She led the Centre for New Technology Research in Education at the University of Warwick, and then took the role of lead education consultant for Cisco Systems Corporate Affairs and then Cisco Consultancy Services.

Mr Charles Senkondo is the Executive Director of Tanzania Global  Learning Agency (TaGLA), a Government Executive Agency with a mandate of capacity development through innovative approaches using technologies. Alexander graduated from the Odessa State Economic University with a degree in marketing in 1999. During the time at the university, Alexander took several leadership positions in the local committee of AIESEC in Odessa, an international students’ association that facilitates international student exchanges.   After the graduation, Alexander started a tourist business and worked at the Odessa Regional Investment Promotion Bureau as a consultant.

Dr Ismini Vasileiou Associate Professor in Information Systems (FBCS, SFHEA) is holding the roles of: Associate Head for Teaching and Learning and Subject Lead in Information Systems in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at De Montfort University, Leicester, UK. Leading the team on Information Systems, developing cutting edge curriculum giving attention to diverse teaching and assessment.

Dr. Vasileiou's is certified on Social Engineering delivering workshops as and when needed. Her research interests include Social Engineering, Security Education, Information Systems, Big Data and Technology-supported Learning. Barbara Wasson is the Director of the Centre for The Science of Learning and Technology (SLATE) at the University of Bergen, where she is a full Professor in the Department of Information Science & Media Studies.

She has been involved in research on Technology Enhanced Learning since 1983 and has over 150 publications in the field. At SLATE she currenly is involved in several projects using machine learning and learning analytics and other modelling aspects of AI. 

Wasson was one of the founders of Kaleidoscope, a European Network of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning, a European Network of Excellence in Technology Enhanced Learning and she is often used as an expert evaluator by the European Commission.  

Her current research interests include collaborative learning in distributed settings, mobile learning, interaction design, computer support for collaborative learning (CSCL), mobile learning, learning games, intelligent tutoring systems, e-assessment, teacher inquiry, learning analytics, and pedagogical agents.

A graduate of The University of Nottingham, Stewart has worked in the software industry within Education since 2011 gaining a good understanding of the intricacies of FE/HE institutions, the challenges they face and the common goals and objectives across the sector. Stewart moved to D2L in January 2016 having previously run the sales operation at Blackbaud Europe helping schools, colleges, universities and charities grow their revenue through fundraising and alumni relations technology.

At D2L, Stewart heads up D2L’s business in the EMEA region and is responsible for the retention and growth of D2L’s customer base within both the education and enterprise sectors. I’ve worked at the intersection of teaching, research and digital for over 20 years. This has taken me from hand-coding websites for the BBC Natural History unit through to my current job of helping to run the largest Creative Arts university in Europe* as Head of Digital Learning. In between I worked at the University of the West of England and a long stint at the University of Oxford co-managing an online distance learning unit. 

I’m not a technologist in that I’m more interested in the implications and opportunities of digital for learning, work and society than I am in procuring the latest shiny tech. A large aspect of my role at the University of the Arts London is focused on enhancing teaching and learning by encouraging emerging aspects of digital practice –  a good example of this work being the Digital Creative Attributes Framework.

Beyond UAL I’m probably best known for the Digital Visitors and Residents continuum (V&R), an approach to understanding how we relate to the digital environment. The V&R mapping activity is used globally in many courses and staff development sessions and has been central to numerous research studies.

Seeking connections between enhancing teaching and learning and open, online modes of engagement earnt me Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. Alongside this I have led a number of national studies which explore the potential of digital in higher education contexts and have supported institutions in the strategic development of teaching practice.

Guy Wilmshurst-Smith is Head of Network Rail Training, leading a 500 strong team that delivers learning services to Network Rail and the wider industry. Recent years have seen a drive to utilise technology to create a system of more immersive training shaped by data to enable better train performance and safety in the service of passengers. He has served in Network Rail for 8 years following 30 years in various roles within the Royal Engineers seeing tours across the world including the Arctic, Falkland Islands, Balkans, Belize, Kenya, Hong Kong, Iraq, Sudan and Afghanistan.

Kirsten Wolgast, LL.M. (University of Canterbury, NZ), is a German lawyer and partner at the global law firm Pinsent Masons. She studied laws and philosophy in Germany and New Zealand and was admitted as Rechtsanwältin in Germany in 2006. She specialises in IT and data protection laws and has assisted various organizations in their GDPR implementation projects, including various institutions in the health and research sector. Beyond her immediate legal practice, Kirsten is very interested in all sorts of legal tech solutions, including legal serious games and legal learning software. 6 months after the GDPR has entered into force, she believes it is time to start discussing whether the GDPR actually achieves what it aims at. Do we really have a harmonized European data protection regime? Does the GDPR protect data subjects' interests sufficiently?

Zac Woolfitt is a lecturer and researcher at Inholland University in the Netherlands. With a background in tourism where he worked in North America for ten years, he is now based near Amsterdam.

Since 2010 he has been conducting research into the effective use of video in higher education. His research has examined challenges teaching staff face when transitioning from face-to-face, to teaching via video (from 3d to 2d). Using a variety of technologies, he has recorded over 100 web lectures that are used when ‘flipping’ the classroom in an interactive, dynamic and blended learning environment.

His current research focus examines how educatoinal organisatoins are formally and informally shifting into the hybrid classroom. In the hybrid classroom, education is delivered face-to-face and online. Students are in the classroom, and also join online. Formally (through school arranged technology), or informally (via student smartphones and student laptops). What challenges does this pose to the educator and students? What is needed in order to faciltate this transition into this educational format?

Sebastian Zug is a Professor at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. His research interests are focused on outdoor robotics and self-describing, intelligent components.

Based on a broad experience in bachelor and master course in programming and embedded systems, he develops new concepts for practical oriented engineering courses. This includes new open source course materials including interactive programming sessions, simulation tools and remote access on laborartory equipments. Sebastian Zug is the coordinator of two national projects addressing challenges of remote laboratories and eLearning environments.
