This unconference will enable you to explore how a conversational digital collaboration format can be used to support reflective professional practice, mission-led innovation, open leadership, and virtual teams. We look forward to discussing topics such as how the way we work and communicate is changing as we work in ever-more-distributed ways; why this kind of practice should happen in the open and why it is important; why and how you, as a learning professional/educator, can try to adopt this approach; and what the barriers you may encounter are.
Maren Deepwell
Chief Executive, Association for Learning Technology, UK
Dr Maren Deepwell has been CEO of ALT, the Association for Learning Technology since 2012, shaping the direction of education technology and driving the field forward internationally.
Dr Deepwell is a seasoned keynote speaker, conference convener and writes regularly for publications in Higher and Further Education as well as policy development.
With a background in Anthropology, Dr Deepwell’s particular focus is on a critical perspective on the development and future of technology in education, professionalisation and skills in Learning Technology including development of the CMALT accreditation framework and leveraging technology to create greater equity in education.
Recent projects include open policy development, edtech start ups and organisational transformation which puts her commitment to open leadership into practice. Her work is bridging Learning Technology discourse across sectors in the UK and internationally.

Martin Hawksey
Chief Innovation, Community and Technology Officer, Association for Learning Technology, UK
Martin Hawksey is Chief Innovation, Community and Technology Officer for the Association for Learning Technology. Martin's career began as a learning technologist in the UK Higher Education sector and has gone on to hold advisory roles within the educational technology sector for a number of UK government funded services. In these roles, he has supported staff in the exploration and adoption of innovative approaches to learning and teaching.
As part of his role Martin is responsible community strategy implementing a number of initiatives including the development of the ALT Members #altc Twitter hashtag. Since 2014 this has been promoted as the primary tag for sharing ALT activities as well as becoming the official ALT Annual Conference hashtag. To provide actionable insight to the development of the hashtag Martin has developed a number of free tools for measuring social media impact on Twitter utilizing Google Sheets as a platform for data capture and analysis. In part this work led to Martin being inducted to the Google Experts programme in 2014, still actively sharing his expertise in G Suite to the developer community.
