Nico Juist

In 1987 Nico Juist borrowed a set of ten Apple Macintosh computers to use them in his first “computer aided” history lesson. Since then his professional focus is on ICT in Education. He worked as teacher-trainer, developer, project manager and policy advisor for “information management” for the universities of applied science Inholland and Leiden.
For ten years he was chairman of the SURF Special Interest Group “digital learning environment for higher education in the Netherlands” organizing knowledge exchange and collaboration in Dutch higher education. He is co-author of several publications on the subject. In 2018 he received the SURF Education Award for his long term involvement in the development of learning environments in higher education.
Nowadays he works as freelance advisor for SURF on the subject “personal and flexible digital learning environments”. SURF is a cooperative association of Dutch educational and research institutions in which its members join forces. Within SURF, universities, universities of applied science, UMCs and research institutions work together to purchase or develop the best possible digital services and to stimulate knowledge sharing by continuing to innovate.
