Martin Riemer

Lecturer,Scientist, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Germany

For over 25 years Martin Riemer has been involved in medical 3D-image processing research. This work resulted in a prototype of the subsequently published VOXEL-MAN 3D-Navigator anatomical interactive medical atlases; which helped to introduce 3D virtual body models, made from tomographic data, to medical teaching. In the development group he was mainly responsible for the prototype, the user interface and the MS-Windows implementation of the 3D-Navigator.
Since 2003 he has concentrated on teaching Medical Computer Science and helped setting up eLearning at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), together with a group of eLearning activists.
His special interest is the creation and use of Virtual Patients. He is currently representing the UKE in several expert groups setting up the Hamburg Open Online University (HOOU). Being involved in teaching medical students in both real and virtual environments and software engineering he is familiar with pedagogical as well as technical aspects of eLearning.
