Mark de Boer

Lecturer, Akita International University, Japan

Mark deBoer, Canadian, is a lecturer at Akita International University (AIU) in Northern Japan and has taught English in Japan for 20 years to all age levels. He holds both a BSc in Chemistry and a BSc in Biology from York University in Toronto, Canada. He holds an MA in TESL/TEFL from the University of Birmingham and is a Ph.D. candidate also through the University of Birmingham. He was responsible for creating ICT English as a Medium for Instruction curriculum for Applied Chemistry, Materials Science, and Biochemistry at the university level in Japan. At his current position at AIU he is involved in the creation of MOOCs for Liberal Arts Education and is also currently actively involved in COIL.

His research investigates online peer-peer Dynamic Assessment instances in English language learning and he is developing a learning process theory based on collaborative tool-mediated learning environments.

He is a semi-professional cellist and loves to bake bread.
