Tech LAB on App Development in the Classroom (BYOD)

In this hands-on tech lab you will be introduced to the basics of app development and coding. By building a simple app for Android devices you will learn principles of the development process: design, programming and testing. You will also receive an overview of teaching resources for app development in the classroom in order to run your own coding workshops.
A limited number of seats is available so make sure to sign up in time during the event and do not forget to bring your own laptop.

Diana Knodel
Founder, App Camps, Germany
Dr. Diana Knodel has a background in computer science, psychology and educational research. After graduating from university she co-founded CyberMentor, an e-mentoring program for girls and women in STEM. She worked as a project manager and team lead in in the IT industry and was a product manager at XING.
In 2014 Diana started App Camps, a non-profit that aims to bring coding and digital skills into the classroom. Teachers in different countries use App Camps' teaching resources and thousands of young people have already participated in courses on app development or HTML & CSS.
From October 2016 Diana will be a guest professor at the Technical University Berlin.
Diana is an ambassador for the Hamburg Geekettes, a community of women dedicated to helping aspiring and established female tech innovators. Edition F and D64 named her as one of the 25 leading women in Germany for the digital future.

Melanie Stilz
Student, Technische Universität Berlin, Germany
Melanie has a background in European Ethnology and Computer Science and a PhD in Communications, researching on the intersection of digital technologies, communication studies, STS and international development. Since 2013 Melanie is a research associate at TU Berlin with a teaching a research interest in electronics, digital labs and ICTs and education and working on a freelance basis as a consultant in the same area. Previous cooperations include One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Afghanistan, Ustad Mobile (Mobile Literacy), GIZ, MICT, Parliamentwatch, GIG and others. She is also co-founder of Konnektiv, Agency for Education and Development und Digital Unite e.V.
