Drawing on the latest research, these speakers will provide insight on best practices for MOOCs. The importance of pedagogy, MOOCs in the workplace, open educational resources, and social learning will all be addressed.

Sanna Ruhalahti, M.A. works as a Senior Lecturer at the HAMK School of Professional Teacher Education. PhD student at University of Lapland. For years, she has been a pioneer of online teaching in vocational education and training. In recent years, she has developed a strong focus on the use of social media and mobile devices in teaching in addition to online pedagogy. Her particular areas of interest include online and mobile environments that enrich teaching, guidance and counselling and individualisation of learning. Last researches have focused on dialogical and authentic learning in MOOCs as well in mobile based courses.

Can Social Learning Up-skill the Global Workforce?
Simon Nelson is Chief Executive of FutureLearn, the social learning platform and first UK-based provider of massive open online courses (MOOCs).
Simon founded the Open University-backed initiative in December 2012 and has quickly established it as a high quality entrant to the emerging online learning market. The FutureLearn site went live in September 2013; since then over two million people have registered, generating more than four million sign-ups to more than 200 courses. In May 2015, FutureLearn’s delivered the biggest single run of a MOOC ever, with a record of more than 440,000 people signing for a course from the British Council.
To date, FutureLearn has partnered with over 70 leading universities, specialist education institutions and centres of research excellence around the world to deliver over free online courses to its global community learners. The company was named “Start-up of the Year” at the 2014 British Interactive Media Awards. FutureLearn also won the “People’s LOVIE Award” and the “Judges’ Silver Award” in the ‘Schools & Education Website’ category of the 2014 LOVIES, organised by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS).
Simon was a key figure in the development of the BBC’s online and digital services and a pioneer in taking its media brands and content online. He developed and delivered the BBC’s digital strategies for Radio and Music, launched the BBC’s first on demand services – the innovative Radio Player and world-leading podcasting service – and developed new digital stations, including Radio 6 Music. He then moved to head up all digital content activities for BBC Television, leading the development of the BBC iPlayer and creating an online presence for all of the BBC’s programmes, channels and key subject areas – from Drama and Kids’, to Science and Learning.
He has won multiple awards for digital innovation and product development, including several Emmys, Webby and Bafta awards, the Prix Italia, Prix Europa and Rose D’or.
After leaving the BBC, Simon led a number of digital strategy and product development projects in the TV, radio and publishing sectors, working as an advisor to companies including Random House, UKTV, Lime Pictures, United Business Media and Phaidon Press.

Pierre Dillenbourg

What Did We Learn From Our First 37 MOOCs?
Pierre Dillenbourg is professor of learning technologies at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and academic director of the Center for Digital Education. Former teacher in elementary school, Pierre graduated in educational science (University of Mons, Belgium). He started to conduct research in learning technologies in 1984. He obtained a PhD in computer science from the University of Lancaster (UK), in the field of educational applications of artificial intelligence. He is past president of the International Society for the Learning Sciences. His work covers various domain of computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL), ranging from novel interfaces for face-to-face collaboration (tangibles, paper computing) to more cognitive projects on dual eye tracking. His lab conducts projects in elementary schools, vocational education and university teaching. The Center for Digital Education is both the EPFL MOOC factory, having obtained 265’000 registration for its first year of activity, and a team of scientists doing research on MOOCs.

Paul Hunter

A New Approach to MOOC Learning
Paul Hunter comes originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland. After successfully completing his Bachelors and Masters degree at Cambridge University and post graduate study at Oxford University, Paul moved to Switzerland.
As Director of IMD’s Corporate Learning Network, Paul works with worldwide organizations across the globe helping them to evolve as learning organizations. Paul produces and moderates a weekly web TV broadcast available to all executives from Corporate Learning Network companies, is responsible for the IMD portfolio of virtual learning programs to address the changing needs of the digital generation, and hosts monthly Discovery Events showcasing the latest applied research from IMD.
Previously Paul worked his way through the ranks of the Wall Street Institute from part-time teacher to become General Manager of Wall Street for Switzerland, France and Germany. Paul managed 17 profit centres in Switzerland, launched several start-up businesses in France and was active in redressing operations in Germany. He acted as a trouble shooter and trainer to increase efficiency in sales, marketing, service and operations.
After 7 years with Wall Street, Paul moved on to join a boutique consultancy firm specialising in leadership development, executive coaching and training. His main activities consisted of conceptualising and rolling out development programs with global organisations, senior management teambuilding, hands-on management assessment and training and senior executive coaching. He significantly expanded the consultancy, particularly at an international level, and launched many new programs, services and strategic initiatives.
Paul graduated from IMD with an Executive MBA with Honours and coaches on several of IMD’s open, customised and degree programs. Paul is a Tavistock trained facilitator and is qualified in a wide range of psychometric tools including NEO, FIRO,16PF, Lifo Base, Lifo Communication, EPPS. He is also vice-chair of ELIG, the European Learning Industry Group, Steering Committee member of EFMD’s Corporate Learning Improvement Processes and a popular keynote speaker at international workshops and seminars for worldwide organisations.
Paul is married with three young children. He has worked and travelled throughout the world, speaks three languages and has also spent time as a journalist for the BBC.
