The OEB Annual Debate: This House Believes That AI Should Be the Teacher of the Future, Supported by Human Coaches

AI can already explain concepts, adapt lessons to individual learners, generate practice, provide immediate feedback and offer support at any time. At the same time, new models of schooling are beginning to separate academic instruction from the wider human role traditionally played by teachers, with technology taking a greater share of content delivery while adults focus on motivation, relationships, confidence and personal development.

As AI becomes increasingly capable of providing personalised instruction at scale, education faces a fundamental question about who, or what, should take primary responsibility for teaching. The House therefore proposes that AI should be the teacher of the future, supported by human coaches.
