This presentation will emphasize how artificial intelligence (AI) serves as a transformative force in education, unlocking new opportunities for educators. It will explore how AI can be effectively and responsibly integrated into teaching practices, guided by the UNESCO AI Competency Framework. A critical analysis of AI’s evolving role in education will be provided, offering insights into both its challenges and potential. Ultimately, educators will gain the knowledge and skills needed to harness AI in enriching the learning experience.
Frank Coenders
Lecturer, Hogeschool de Kempel, Netherlands
Frank Coenders is a technology lecturer at Hogeschool de Kempel in Helmond (south of the Netherlands). He teaches all year groups at the college in both full-time and part-time courses. He also supervises lateral entrants in their graduation programme. Frank chairs a group of quartermasters from all Radiantpabos in the Netherlands. He has been involved with technology in education since the early 1990s. Frank's expertise is in the field of media applications such as film, animation and photography in education. For several years, Frank has been actively following developments in the field of AI and guiding colleagues in thinking about and deploying AI in education.
Işıl Boy Ergül
Founder, Teacher X
Dr. Işıl Boy Ergül completed her undergraduate studies in English Language Teaching at Istanbul University, her master’s degree in Educational Technologies at the University of Manchester, and her PhD in Educational Technologies at Bahçeşehir University, where she also taught postgraduate courses. In 2015, Dr. Ergül was recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator. She has served as a lecturer and advisor at Yıldız Technical University and worked as a teacher trainer for Pilgrims in the UK.
For over a decade, Dr. Ergül has delivered a wide range of educational technology training programs both in Turkey and internationally. She is the founder of the Educational Technologies Summit (ETZ), the teacher training platform TeacherX, and CertifiX, a blockchain-based certificate management system for students. Through TeacherX, she has collaborated with over 500 schools and supported more than 25,000 teachers.
Dr. Ergül is also the Turkish ambassador for the European Training Foundation, where she leads content development for the AI group. Recently, she translated UNESCO’s “Guidance for Generative AI in Education and Research” into Turkish. She delivers keynote speeches at conferences on educational technology and AI in education.

For serval years she was the Academic VP of a company that provided e-Learning solutions for the corporate industry. Gila has been a visiting scholar at the University of Maryland University College, University of California Berkeley, Syracuse University and University Roma, TRE.
