How To
BlendBlossom: Inspiration for Designing Blended Learning
Date Friday, Nov 24 Time – RoomChess
New education is not linear anymore, but a colorful journey of different learning activities. But how to design such blended learning? During this How To session, you will visualise different student journeys by playing the inspirational game “BlendBlossom”, an instrument co-created by the e-coach community of Avans University of Applied Sciences.
Which learning activities and teaching methods can you use? What tools and resources can help you to facilitate learning? Where does learning take place and with whom? Making the puzzle with all these elements will show you possible learning routes, bringing up new ideas for your upcoming educational design journey.
After a short introduction, participants will play the game in small groups, guided by the speaker and other e-coaches. After playing, experiences will be shared, and the speaker will end with some final advice. So come and play the BlendBlossom with us!
Judith Herrewijn
Ambassador of Blended Learning, University of Applied Sciences Avans, Netherlands
Judith has been dedicated to making higher education more engaging and interactive for over 10 years. She is renowned for her expertise in educational innovation, blended learning, and gamification. In her role as an e-coach at Avans University (since 2019) she supports teachers and educational developers in using digital learning resources and designing blended education. She guides 13 different educational teams in the development of Avans' new educational model, in which blended learning and active learning are essential components.
She is also a Marketing Communication lecturer, which allows her to directly test all tools and methods with students. This way, she stays close to the target audience and can optimize all the innovations she works on in a short period of time. For example, she has ensured that students can access e-learnings as part of a blended learning course, and her students have been using the mobile learning game Knowingo for years.
To foster engagement and involvement, Judith has established a Blended Learning Inspiration Café, where meeting and knowledge sharing take center stage. Here, you can find inspiring examples of various tools and methods to ultimately create a blended learning course.
She is also a co-creator of the BlendBlossom game, which is used to raise awareness among teachers and educational developers about the various possibilities for blended education. This game has been developed by the e-coaches community and educational experts from Avans University of Applied Sciences and serves as a solid foundation for actual (re)designing courses.
