XR in Education, State of the Art 2020 - Merging Immersive Realities

Date Wednesday, Dec 2 Time   –   Room

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented educational disruption with 1.2 billion students and youth across the globe affected by school closures. Directly impacting the confidence of citizens in services as important as education and health to respond to the crisis. And this dilemma remains at the heart of the crisis, in the absence of advanced ideas that provide an effective solution to a new scenario, which de facto has already been created. On the other hand, Covid-19 has stimulated the growth of virtual reality in the home, this has been one of the drivers of immersive collaboration platforms. Over six months, we have carried out a worldwide research study, about the State of Art on the use of VR and AR in Education and Training, with the collaboration of more than 150 educational institutions in the 5 continents, and the results are very encouraging and clarifying. In this study, the strengths and weaknesses of the ecosystem are revealed, being able to draw conclusions based on evidence, which will allow us to move in the right direction for the coming years. However, and for this to happen and the benefits of these technologies are clearly identified, and they are put in value at the service of society, important changes must be made in educational strategy and in learning methods. And until that happens, we can work on developing safer and healthier solutions in digitally advanced ecosystems. This is my mission.
