Working with ePortfolios - the Tool for Self-directed Learning (BYOD)

This hands-on tech lab (Bring Your Own Device) is aimed at education professionals who wish to further develop their ICT-based teaching skills. You will be inspired by practical insights from the authors´ experience with the use of an e-portfolio to encourage autonomous evidence-based learning and assessment. You will get insight into how working with an e-portfolio can stimulate desire for creativity, motivation, digital literacy, and self-reflection, skills that are demanded from 21st - century professionals. We'll work with the free and open source system Mahara. Check out the presenters' slides in the conference library with guidelines on how to get started.
Jitka Hlouskova
Senior Lecturer, University of Pardubice, Czech Republic
Jitka Hlouskova is the Head of the Language Centre of the University of Pardubice, Czech Republic.
Her professional focus includes teaching English for Specific and Academic Purposes (ESP and EAP) in higher education. Her current research interest lies in learner autonomy and innovative approaches to education in general. Apart from languages, linguistics and literature, she is also interested in personal development. She has a background in coaching, which helps her function more effectively not only in her managerial roles, but also as an educator.
The investigation she has done into the application of principles and tools of coaching to teaching proves that this approach contributes to increased autonomy, personal transformation and internalization of the lifelong learning concept among the students. Her international and intercultural experience involves short-term stays at universities abroad, speaking and chairing sessions at conferences, or collaboration in project management activities.
