Dr. Augustine Mwangi
Dr. Augustine Mwangi Gatotoh is an educationist with over 17 years of experience. He is currently a Senior lecturer at the Faculty of Education, University of Nairobi, Kenya. Augustine holds a PhD in Distance Education from the University of Nairobi. In addition, he has undertaken short courses in Digital Education, From the Open University, UK, and Community Development from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. He has vast experience in various areas of education, including instructional design, distance education systems strengthening, digital courseware development, curriculum design, and Integration of ICTs in teaching and learning.
Before his current appointment, he served as the Acting Principal Instructional Designer, Courseware Development & Production at the University of Nairobi. In addition, he was the Country Project Lead for the Digital Universities in Africa, a study on the stories of innovation gathered from educators in Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria as part of a British Council-funded research project led by INASP in 2021. He has also been a researcher with the Pan-African Research Agenda on the Pedagogical Integration of ICTs (PanAf), 2011, a joint initiative of the Educational Research Network for West and Central Africa (ERNWACA) and the University of Montreal (Canada). He was also a member of the Kenyan Research Team that developed the National Report on the State of Youth and adult learning in 2008.
He has published in peer-reviewed journals and disseminated research findings in workshops, conferences and other academic fora. He has consulted widely in digital learning and pedagogical integration of ICT in education in various countries, including Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia and Lesotho.
