Jens Greefe is the Director of Studies at the ILS in Hamburg, Germanys biggest distance learning provider, educating app. 70.000 students in more than 300 distance courses. He is responsible for the development and the organization of the course programs and for the quality management of the ILS
He holds a diploma in Economics and is chairman of the Research & Development Committee of EADL since 2014. From 2012 until 2020 Jens Greefe was Vice president of the german association for distance learning “Bundesverband der Fernstudienanbieter” formerly named “Forum Distance Learning”.
Since 2021 he is member of the Global Advisory Board of the OEB Online Educa Berlin
Since 2022 Jens Greefe is member of the board of "Bundesverband der Fernstudienanbieter".

Rainer Paetsch
Head of eMedia Center, Institut für Lernsysteme GmbH ILS
Rainer manages the eMedia Center of the German distance learning providers ILS and Euro-FH at the Hamburg location. He has a master's degree in adult education, worked in publishing for several years, and has been in the distance learning industry since 2001. His current work focuses on e-assessment and AI-supported production of teaching/learning content.
Oliver Nahm
Scientific Officer, Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training - Bundesinstitut für berufliche Bildung (BIBB), Germany
Oliver Nahm leads the project “Learning Analytics – Distance Learning” at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), which aims to assess the importance of Learning Analytics for vocational distance learning courses, as well as further its implementation.
He has worked as a teacher and trainer for many years, designing and teaching courses both on- and offline. His focus is on a holistic and flexible approach to education, utilizing data, while keeping the focus on the human element.
Ellen Gunning
Director, Irish Academy of Public Relations, Ireland
Ellen Gunning created Irish Academy of Public Relations in 1992. The college provides internationally recognised online professional diploma courses, modular self-learning CPD courses and corporate training in communications disciplines. Ellen is author of three books, including the global third-level core text “Public Relations – A Practical Approach”. She specialises in Crisis PR training and consultancy. Her other business, Mettacomms, is an AI powered platform offering sight of future trends in multiple disciplines. A member of the board of EADL, the European Association for Distance Learning, Ellen’s panel contribution spans both communications and future-vision inputs.

Distance Learning Providers today are processing large amounts of learners’ data to optimise their services and provide the best possible support. An important impact on the learning environments of the future is expected from learning analytic tools.
This Pre-Conference Workshop will provide insights into an ongoing learning analytics project by the German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and showcase best practices from project partners. The workshop will delve into two key aspects: the potential of utilising AI for data analysis and the endeavour to enhance completion rates.
