Peter Alston

Continuous Online Assessment in the Life Sciences: Challenges Faced and Lessons Learned
Pete works in the School of Life Sciences, providing direction on the use of TEL within the School. With a background in information systems and web development/programming (BSc (Hons) Information Systems; MSc Web Computing), he is currently studying for a PhD in eResearch and Technology Enhanced Learning at Lancaster University. His thesis is focusing on the role of electronic assessment in Higher Education and the implications for policy and practice.
Pete’s previous role was as a Senior Lecturer in Computing at Edge Hill University, contributing to the teaching and project supervision on the Web Systems Development & Teacher Training pathways. He has also worked as a Research Assistant in the Institute of Cognitive Science at University of Colorado (Boulder), USA, working on the development of a Web interface for a system intended for use by social scientists studying climate change.

After more than twenty years of international experience in the world of education and training as a teacher, instructional designer and educational leader, Marcos Olasolo
started a new professional stage at ETS in 2012.
With a master’s degree in English Literature and applied linguistics, he is fluent in English, French and Spanish. He has developed his professional experience in several countries like France, Spain, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, in environments suchas universities, language schools and corporations.
He currently lives in Amsterdam (The Netherlands), where he is the pedagogical expert for EDO (English Discoveries Online), the new English learning solution developed by ETS

Carl Henrik Gørbitz

Transitioning to BYOD in High-Stake Assessments: Pitfalls and Recommendations for Universities and Awarding Bodies
Carl Henrik Gørbitz received his PhD-degree from the University of Oslo in 1990. After a post.doc. appointment with Professor Margaret C. Etter at the University of Minnesota, he returned to the Department of Chemistry in Oslo where he obtained a staff position in structural chemistry in 1992 and was promoted to Full Professor in 1996. He has published about 150 scientific papers in three categories: 1) protein structures, 2) amino acids, peptides and their complexes, and 3) crystal engineering efforts using other types of molecules. In addition to single crystal X-ray diffraction, experimental methods have involved powder XRD and NMR-investigations, supplemented by a spectrum of theoretical methods. As the head of studies at his department from 2001 to 2013, and also as a lecturer at the bachelor, master and PhD-levels, Professor Gørbitz has developed a keen interest in learning theory and the integration of digital tools in teaching and assessment.
Marc Oswald

e-Assessment Interoperability Is Critical To The Advancement of Digital Education
Marc Oswald is co-founder and CEO of Open Assessment Technologies (OAT), and a vocal proponent of interoperability through industry standards. Marc serves as chairman of the IMS Executive Board on Assessment (EBA), which he initiated in early 2015 with the goal to significantly improve the interoperability of assessment content based on the QTI standard. The EBA now counts 23 members, including end-user organizations such as PARCC, Smarter Balanced and the Houston Independent School District, assessment publishers Cito, Pearson and CTB/McGraw-Hill and many other vendors.
Prior to launching OAT, Marc served as entrepreneur in residence for the European research center LIST where he focused on open source software R&D. He further served on the boards of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) from which he received a lifetime achievement award for his work on solutions interoperability.

Dr Stylianos Hatzipanagos is Senior Lecturer (Centre of Technology Enhanced Learning) at King's College London, UK. He is a Fellow of the Centre for Distance Education at the University of London. His research portfolio includes: learning design and evaluation of online learning environments, formative and technology-enhanced assessment, computer supported collaborative work, open educational resources, digital literacies, social media and social networking in an educational context. His output is peer-reviewed articles, books, edited journal special issues and has led and participated in research projects at a European and national (UK) level.
