Riekje de Jong

Riekje de Jong is a senior educational consultant and staff trainer at the Centre for Teaching and Learning (faculty of Social Sciences) of Utrecht University since 2012. She is a member of the Educational Development and Training group. Next to her management responsibilities of the Educational Development & Training group, she has been consultant and project leader of several local and national projects in the field of staff development in higher education.  

She has studied Social Psychology at VU University Amsterdam and started her career as a teacher in higher vocational education and as a consultant in the field of secondary education. In 1989 she became (senior) educational consultant at Radboud University in Nijmegen. She was active in the field op curriculum education and staff development in higher education.  She is one of the initiators of the mutual agreement of the university teaching qualification (BKO) of all Dutch research universities in 2008.

As a consultant she is involved in the implementation of staff development policy in research universities. For example as programme leader of the programme of Educational leadership of the Centre of Excellence of University Teaching (Utrecht University), in providing programmes for professional development of academic teachers and portfolio tracks for a senior teaching qualification (SKO). She is also providing professional development of teachers in universities of applied sciences regarding student assessment and supervising student research. 

She has broad experience in audits and assessment committees of the quality of higher education programmes in Flanders and the Netherlands (NVAO). She is participating in national and international networks in the field of educational development (EHON and ICED).

Her main fields of interests are professional development of teachers in higher education/staff development, assessment and curriculum development.
