Spotlight Stage

The Vital Role We Play in the Learning Industry in Addressing the Climate and Biodiversity Emergency

Date Thursday, Nov 23 Time   –   RoomPotsdam III

In this Spotlight Talk we will discuss our big opportunity, the blindspots, what’s happening already and what we need to do to transform and make the green transition.

We have an opportunity, as an industry, to positively impact the climate and biodiversity emergency. The emergency is complex and touches every part of our lives and the jobs we do. However, nothing gets done in the world unless people understand it.

Our business is helping people understand. To date, there has been no standard green curriculum in any of our compulsory education systems designed to help us make the green transition. This is the opportunity for the Learning industry. Through transformative changes in education and training, we can enable learners, whoever they are, to develop green confidence and competence, because they know why and they have hope for our future.

In this session, we will cover a variety of areas, which provide a set of key takeaways:
- What are green skills? And what are the priority green skills and why?
- What are the mindsets and behaviours that everyone requires for the green transition.
- What learning strategies, learning design and practical learning approaches are we seeing emerging, and steps you can take to adopt them.
- Examples of nature-informed learning design, which works to connect, motivate and emotionally activate learners to think and act in new ways.
- How, as an industry, we can model a sustainable transition, in our physical and virtual learning environments.
- Examples from across the learning sector from schools to corporate L&D.
