He is in the School of Education in the Faculty of Humanities Social Sciences and Education at the University of Venda in South Africa. He is responsible for preparing pre-service Physical science teachers (read Physics and Chemistry). He has a number of postgraduate students at Masters and Doctoral levels. His research and teaching interests hinge on using technology in STEM subjects.
Maria D. Avgerinou

For the past 20+ years, as a certified online educator and academic in universities in the US, UK, and more recently in Greece, Dr. Avgerinou has taught, published, and presented extensively on the research and practice of online and blended learning (K12 and Higher Education), action research, and visual literacy for education and training with particular emphasis on teacher education and professional development. With postdoctoral diplomas on e-Learning Design, Implementation, and Evaluation from the University of London (UK), the University of Hull (UK), and Indiana University (US), Dr. Avgerinou has also acted as a consultant in education and corporate training.
As an international scholar, Dr. Avgerinou has been active in various leadership roles in a number of professional associations such as the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), the European Distance and eLearning Network (EDEN), and the International Visual Literacy Association (IVLA). In recognition of her contribution especially to the field of Visual Literacy, Dr. Avgerinou has received various awards, most notably IVLA’s Research Award (2009), and the Braden & Beauchamp Award (2001, 2010). In 2012, she was elected the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Visual Literacy (JVL/Routledge), the oldest international academic journal in the field. Furthermore, she currently serves as a Master Reviewer for Quality Matters® (MarylandOnline/US), and an external specialist for the European Commission’s Key Action 2: Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices.

Peter Baxter, an Irish digital arts educator and pioneer, specialises in using innovative multimedia, music, and the arts in technology-enhanced non-formal creative learning. He established Createschool in 2001, integrating technology and art to engage primary and secondary school pupils in a variety of projects. His award-winning stop-motion films with Tell Tale Stop Motion Animations demonstrate his digital storytelling skills and the success of this approach.
Since 2007, he has also been producing podcasts, including the acclaimed and award-winning iWalks series for Dublin Tourism and later Failte Ireland. This podcast is now a popular template used in schools for a range of intra-curricular projects. (est 2001)

The Capacity of Developing Nations' Institutions To Deliver Education Through Modern Technology or/and Artificial Intelligence Amidst Economic Hardship, Sam Kaheru
This presentation showcases a project that aims to provide digital support to rural schools with small numbers of Science, Mathematics, and Accounting students and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal of reducing the limitations of distance to provide quality education.
The use of digital is negotiated to fit each school's needs, and the project involves eight schools scattered over a province. Computer simulations are used to encourage practical work in Science and Mathematics, and a Switching Replications Experimental Design is used to measure the project's success.
Designing and Evaluating K12 Digital Resources, Maria D. Avgerinou
This presentation proposes a research-based framework and associated evaluation instrument (rubric) for designing and evaluating K12 Digital Education Textbooks and Resources (DER), focusing on four dimensions: content, user interaction/experience, instructional design, and interaction.
Participants will learn how rubric can be implemented and interpreted by different stakeholders and will discuss the implications of the proposed rubric for backward design and evaluation of digital educational resources in the K12.

This presentation will examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education in less privileged communities, particularly in Zambia and other developing countries. It will explore the gaps in access to education and technology, as well as the challenges posed by climate change-induced power outages.
Glory Mushinge will also discuss the readiness of developing countries for AI-aided learning and the need for stakeholders to find solutions to bridge the gaps and promote education for all.
