Connect, Communicate, Collaborate and Learn

ePals is expanding their classroom connections to China, Europe and Turkey.

ePals, a popular U.S.-based social learning network, is on the move to expand its reach in Europe and Asia, most notably to China, Europe and Turkey. Through ePals’ website (, teachers can connect up with colleagues and classrooms in remote locations around the world to share stories, cultural and personal information and to work collaboratively on projects.

In recent years, social media has captured the world’s attention, making online communication and collaboration a way of life for millions of people, especially students. ePals enables K-12 schools to take advantage of this highly engaging social learning model that students love so much without worrying about the threats that come with consumer market tools like Twitter and Facebook. ePals provides safe, customizable workspaces stocked with easy-to-use web 2.0 tools, such as wikis, blogs and discussion forums. Through ePals, teachers can facilitate safe, authentic and dynamic exchanges with other classrooms around the globe to motivate students and improve academic achievement.

ePals, which has been in business since 1993, has a broad reach, connecting more than 800,000 classrooms across 200 countries and reaching over 27 million students, teachers and parents for engaging and authentic learning experiences. Teachers say connecting with peers in other cultures makes their kids develop new understandings that help provide broader perspectives on life.

ePals is also the only educational community that has penetrated the Chinese market, reaching about 218 million Chinese students, teachers and families.  With a new focus on Europe, ePals has also started building out partnerships with education agencies in countries already well associated with ePals, such as Germany, Turkey, France, Spain and Italy.

“One of our objectives for the remainder of 2012 and into 2013 is a focus on the international markets that present significant growth opportunities and reach more than a billion students worldwide,” says ePals’ President, Ed Fish. “With plans already in place for China and Europe, we’ll increasingly target international markets through both new and existing global channel partners.“

ePals also offers high-quality multimedia content from well-loved providers, such as National Geographic, the Smithsonian and Cobblestone & Cricket magazines.  Kids can access this content on their own or teachers can integrate it into lessons. ePals also offers a variety of learning centers focusing on specific topics, such as digital citizenship, writing, and anti-bullying. The company plans to grow their academic content, with additional offerings, especially from their European partners.
