Come face to face with robots that are set to shape the future of education and more.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, December 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kicking off the rolling programme on Thursday is artificial intelligence pioneer <a href=\"https:\/\/oeb.global\/programme\/agenda\/sessions\/spl02\" target=\"_blank\">Luc Steels<\/a> from Vrije Universiteit Brussel Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, who will reveal what a \u201csmarter\u201d MOOC, created using AI, looks like. He will be followed by the mysterious <a href=\"https:\/\/oeb.global\/programme\/agenda\/sessions\/spl04\" target=\"_blank\">Charlotte Webb<\/a>, digital artist and Project Manager for Student Engagement (Digital) at the University of the Arts London. Charlotte will question the audience\u2019s perception of online authenticity and turn to art for clues about the possibilities and pitfalls of being \u201cyou\u201d online.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After lunch, a panel of <a href=\"https:\/\/oeb.global\/programme\/agenda\/sessions\/spl03\" target=\"_blank\">edtech investors<\/a> will be ready to answer questions about what they are looking for in new e-learning ventures and the trends that are shaping one of the most important global growth markets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMOOCs have been growing in terms of reach and usage, but still lack a substantial monetisation,\u201d says Michael Hock, Managing Director at Holtzbrinck Digital. He will be joined by Dalia Das<em>,<\/em>\u00a0Vice President Education at Bertelsmann SE &amp; Co. KGaA, and Sandeep Aneja, the Founder and Managing Director of Kaizen Private Equity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gillysalmon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gilly Salmon<\/a>, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education Innovation) at the University of Western Australia (UWA), will follow, discussing the UWA\u2019s \u201cFutures Observatory\u201d. Her talk will focus on how to go beyond the adaptive approach and into much more radical future thinking and action.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Showing what\u2019s possible when robotics is used in education will be <a href=\"https:\/\/oeb.global\/programme\/agenda\/sessions\/spl09\" target=\"_blank\">Pierre-Yves Oudeyer<\/a>, Research Director\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/French_Institute_for_Research_in_Computer_Science_and_Automation\" target=\"_blank\">French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation<\/a> (Inria) and head of the <a href=\"https:\/\/flowers.inria.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\">Flowers Lab<\/a>.\u00a0His pioneering \u201cPoppy\u201d project \u2013 an open-source platform for the creation, use and sharing of interactive 3D printed robots \u2013 is being trailed in classrooms throughout France.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will give examples of how it is being used in schools ranging from the primary level to university, as well as in various educational contexts such as STEM and the arts. You can find out from the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/oeb.global\/node\/1205\" target=\"_blank\">millennials<\/a>\u201d themselves when a group of students take to the stage for the final Thursday session. Members of this demographic will give a first-person narrative of how they use technology in their daily lives and which edtech tools and methods they <em>really<\/em> find engaging.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, December 4 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First up Friday is a panel of <a href=\"https:\/\/oeb.global\/programme\/agenda\/sessions\/spl07\" target=\"_blank\">inspiring educators and entrepreneurs<\/a> who have created new school models designed to meet the demands of a modern, digital world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt didn\u2019t make sense to me that at home children are in the digital age, yet when they go to school, they are stuck in the past. They are being prepared for the past instead of for the future,\u201d says Maurice de Hond, who created the <a href=\"http:\/\/stevejobsschool.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve JobsSchool<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>model in 2014 \u2013 an educational concept that embraces the use of iPads<strong>, <\/strong>elevates teachers to \u201ctalent coaches\u201d, and emboldens students to choose their own six-week lesson plans. The successful model has since been adopted by 22 schools across the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He will be joined by David Cummins from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hacker-school.de\/startseite\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hacker School<\/a>, a non-profit private initiative in Germany that inspires young people to learn programming. The approach shows students how easy it is to escape being mere consumers of technology and empowers them by imparting the knowledge to create it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oeb.global\/oeb-insights\/hacker-school-oeb\/\" target=\"_blank\">In an article for OEB<\/a>, Cummins said: \u201cIt does not make any sense to treat the\u00a0<em>use<\/em>\u00a0of computers as an extra discipline \u2013 not in a world where many children have already used computers in some way before they can read or write [\u2026] Let us stop teaching kids to use the technology in a separate class. Shake hands with new articulated robot-hand technology from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seedrobotics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Seed Robotics<\/a>.
