On Wednesday, we were excited to pass on the news of musician Will.i.am\u2019s first: having his song \u201cReach for the stars\u201d beamed from Mars by the Curiosity Rover.\u00a0 It\u2019s an unfortunate song title, considering the fact that the stars (excluding our own sun) are all light years away from the red planet!\u00a0 Nevertheless, the news of this musical coup made for an uplifting message.\u00a0 Read about the song and Will.i.am\u2019s outreach work with students here http:\/\/huff.to\/Q14uSe<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Back to earth, we tweeted a Scientific American <\/em>article on why being a digital native isn\u2019t enough http:\/\/bit.ly\/S5zjsp<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 The writers argue, \u201cJust because a child jumps at the opportunity to programme a TV to record his or her favourite shows does not mean that he or she will approach a classroom learning tool with the same zeal.\u201d\u00a0 And whilst students (be they digital natives or not) may have much work to do in order to maximise the benefits they derive from using technology, the educators too have their own ongoing lessons to learn.\u00a0 \u201cLearning and building relationships at a science teachers tweet-up\u201d, a story on The Guardian\u2019s <\/em>education pages, sees Ian Horsewell describe what happened when thirty-odd science teachers who\u2019d been in touch in the twittersphere met in person recently.\u00a0 Read all about it here: http:\/\/gu.com\/p\/3a3kj\/tw<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
