The falling cost of fibre-optic cables in Uganda

Flaming_baubleTen years ago, Uganda was coughing up 4,000 US dollars per megabyte of fibre-optic cables. In 2013, the country is paying just one-tenth of that figure. However, at 400 dollars per megabyte, fibre optic cables are still twenty times more expensive than in Europe, said Minister of State for Information Communications Technology sector Dr. David K. Turahi at ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN. Uganda now aims to bring the price down to 50 US dollars and likely speed up internet connectivity all over the country.
